There's a lot of chatter in the forums here about what the most appropriate set up for track racing is for the Subaru engines (actually, it's not limited to just the Subaru engines - the long Hampton sweeper kills any and all!) and three options seem to prevail to solve the problem.
The first is a custom baffle installation which is generally the cheapest. It takes a standard pan and adds baffles.
The second approach is to use a combination of a custom baffle with a Tomei baffle stiffener. The stiffener helps stiffen the crank case and regulate the flow of oil and when combined with the pan baffles, it creates a pretty good set up for track work.
Short of going dry-sump, the third option seems to be an oversized, baffled, aftermarket oil pan. There are two from Moroso - the 5qt (4.73ltrs) and 6qt (5.678ltrs)
options. The increased capacity merely creates a statistically lower chance of the pick up running dry and with the combinations of the baffles it creates a pretty bullet-proof baffled sump option. The 5qt option is $1059 + Shipping (USPS says $155 / pan) whereas the 6qt is $1019 + Shipping
The 5qt is recommended as it suits more chassis's (especially JDM) and because it does not sit as low as the 6qt option.
I don't know of too many alternative options but if ya'all know of some then I'm all ears!
