  1. A big puzzle of parts that slowly self destruct and make me feel good.

  2. I tend to keep my cars. Once I've decided that i'm keeping it, then thats pretty much it. I've been driving for over a decade now, and of all the cars ive had i have only sold 2. My Legacy is a good example, its not worth a lot, but I bought it on a whim off trademe, and It suits me quite well. It was pretty crappy looking when I got it, and I've spent a fair amount on replacing parts which I know I'd never really get back if I sold it. Given the time and effort i've put towards it, I'd hate to come across it ruined a year later, knowing that all hard work and effort was wasted. Part of the Riflemans Creed from the movie Full Metal Jacket springs to mind "There are many like it, but this one is mine"

  3. Thoroughly good experience. I've a 2006 Legacy 3.0R which I booked in via their website for transmission service and brake system flush. Contact was responded to on the same day and job was booked. Arrived this morning at opening time. Was attended to promptly by the knowledgeable lady at the front desk - indicated I was happy to wait for work to be conducted (no choice really as I work a fair distance away). This wasn't a problem, was offered power point for laptop and coffee. I was picked up by a friend and left the site for a while. The mechanic phoned me to inform me that my brake pads had been incorrectly fitted - he'd taken photos which he showed me when I returned. Satisfied with the work undertaken which matched the quoted price. Other vehicle deficiencies were also pointed out. Invoice was very detailed as to the work done and the method used to do it. It was definitely worth the drive out there and I am happy in the knowledge that this garage knows what their doing and offers great customer at the same time. They've just secured a new customer.

  4. Title is clickbait Now I get a bit of grief from workmates for going through cars faster than socks, at least I did till one of them followed suit and started doing the same with the rfb crowd. Basically buying anything underpriced, fixing it up or adding a few cheap things (set of alloys or minor paint work etc), getting a new wof and moving it on, or doing swapz ow for something a bit better. It's well worth the trouble, tho it can confuse the neighbours a bit Do you see a car as a commodity to be bought and sold, something to make money from (like property, but on a smaller scale), or do you see it as something to pour cash into and make it just like the one you always daydreamed about and keep it forever?

  7. Same as in Jarhead ^_ ^ I used to buy and sell cars for a profit when i was at uni for some extra scratch, had a few goodies - a mate of mine worked at giltrap and he'd call me whenever he'd give someone nothing for their car as a trade in, then id go buy it, fix when was wrong with it and polish it up, Best one was a 2001 Audi A6 (in 2008 these were still considered pretty fancy) picked it up for 3k - spent 1k and sold it for 9 a few weeks later. These days I only care about 2 cars - my ute (makes money) and my rs (uses said money) I'll probably keep my RS untill I die, then ill pass it on to my 1st son, ill come to him in a dream and tell him where the keys are and to only run it on BP98

  8. Thanks for all the replies - this is really good information and very helpful. In the mean time, I've gone back to the factory bar and links for two reasons. 1) I want to experience just a rear bar upgrade with stock front bar, then consider if I even want a front bar 2) I definitely wasn't happy with the angle and as @94 Leone rightly pointed out, the stress on the bolt would be far too much to handle. If I decide I do want a front bar upgrade, I will definitely get the ball joint links. Again @94 Leone pointed out the pressure and stresses are not just linear but a wide range of angles which a ball joint is designed to handle. So I'm hearing two options, the BNT ones, $30 is it? Or the adjustable Whiteline ones. Thanks @Fire Thanks too @Firenza for the pics. Very helpful. Thanks everyone for your input. If there isn't an archive document for this then this thread could be very useful for other members at some point. I haven't even taken the car for a proper drive yet but she's had 4 new RE003s and a rear bar upgrade so she's going to get a severe thrashing this weekend.

  9. So the 'dinosaur' pump outperforms the aeromotive all the way from 55psi fuel pressure (15psi boost) to 100psi fuel pressure (60psi boost). So it seems disingenuous to claim the 044 is anything but the industry standard despite it's age or price. Can you do as well with less money? Possibly. Is it worth ditching a complete fuel surge system which is an entirely functional safeguard for your motor? Questionable.

  11. Top drawer service again from H.A. Car went in today to replace the oil cooler and valve cover gaskets that were indicated as leaking on previous visit. Figured may as well replace the spark plugs at the same time. Was informed that upon inspection it was found that they still had plenty of life in them and that there was no need to change them. Great to see that honest mechanics still exist.
