  1. My daily commute involves crawling along the NW motorway into the city, so is hella fuel inefficient due to it being constantly stop start. I feel like the 3.0R is particularly unsuited to this type of driving (great on the open road efficiency wise). So I've been tossing up selling the 3.0R (or giving it to the wife and selling her 2.0i) and getting an impreza s-GT or spec.B legacy wagon. I would probably leave the car fairly stock. Am I right that a 2.0L turbo would be more fuel efficient than the 3.0R for that type of stop-start driving? (i.e. not at boost). Or am I misunderstanding some engineering here? I got really good efficiency commuting in my NA 2.0 BH wagon, maybe I'm being unrealistic in expecting to get something similar with a more performance orientated car.... Part of what's driving this is that @Dairusire showed me what boost feels like, and I feel like I need to own a turbo car at some stage in my life, and as per the Levorg thread I feel like I need to do that before we are all being driven around in automated EVs, haha.

  2. Just wondering if anyone enjoys a good old build thread. Tempted to start one for my project but want to know if people are interested in stuff like this. Will be asking questions and thoughts on certain aspects of the build. Suggestions on brands and other things. Let me know what you think and i might start one.

  3. That's why they have those stickers on the back of their cars, like the "if you can read this you're losing". Street racing is similar to a joke: "if you have to explain to someone you're racing them, you're doing it wrong."

  4. Jeeeeez I wouldn't put any of that additive stuff in a car I didn't plan on immediately selling. All some of those additives do is swell rubber seals, including ones that really shouldn't be swelling.

  5. Yeah I just went with it, steering is bang on. >_< The steering in my STI is "bang on" and I can tell from eyeballing the car that the alignment is completely up the S***, that's how far out it is. We're talking a couple of degrees between being completely hopeless and completely fine.

  6. I didn't get a wheel alignment done on mine as I marked the bolts where they meet the hub. You might get away with not doing one if you're removing and refitting the same strut, but any time you replace something, always get an alignment.

  7. Ahah, it's so funny to read this, I did the complete opposite. I had a few turbo cars before changing my mind about it and getting a GT86 : first reason is it's RWD and second beeing its NA. NA = no lag, higher revs and better fuel efficiency on track, I guess that we just have a different definition of driving pleasure then Regarding fuel efficiency, I think you would get better mileage with a turbo in traffic, but I'd keep my the 3.0R hands down if I were you. Keep in mind that you won't get as much torque in low revs, which is enjoyable in start-stop conditions , with a turbo. Up to you !

  8. Hmmm, well, great day for me. Last night cars temperature nearly hit red line. Fortunately for me have today off work.Checked header tank and sure enough it was empty Chucked water in, checked hoses and surprise of surprises there was no leak!!!! Then I noticed water dripping from heat shield on left hand side and thought 'this is strange' so jacked car up and lo and behold there was dripping which explains where all my water went! So I'm figuring it's my water pump. Contacted SAS who said it should have been done when cam belt was done (obviously) but the workshop I bought the car from said they did the cam belt when I bought the car some 40,000k ago. So Richard and I have worked out that they probably did do the cam belt and didn't bother doing said water pump. Probably why the garage has since shut down. FML. Anyways, have chucked bars leaks in as has water pump seal conditioner so hopefully it'll hold until I can afford to get new water pump. And this is my picture

  10. @A_J_T import, actually been going through the process of getting it e-tuned, but a combination of being away for a month and then one of me,my wife or daughter being sick for the last couple of months has made it hard to go out an log. I really like my BPE. I think the likely scenario is we sell my wife's 2.0i BP5 and the BPE becomes the road trip car/one we will fit a tow bar too and the turbo would be the daily driver/my fun car.

  14. My dream is to put a 2.5 Turbo wrx engine into the Outback, lift it a few inches, add a front and rear nudge bar type thing. Something along the lines of this:
