  1. Feedback just received from LVVTA: As far as we can see they are legal to be fitted and do not require certification. I have asked around the office, gone through our standards and can find no mention of it, nor can I find any mention of it in the Wof VIRM which would suggest there are no current regulations about it. A quick Google shows a company in Wellington that fits them. May be worth contacting them about it :Obsessive Vehicle Security Although I can find no regulations, it unfortunately doesn’t mean there aren’t any hiding in an obscure place. At least there will need to be some thought put into the installation/operation to avoid things like it starting in gear or with the bonnet open to a reduce the risk to people. Hope this helps. Regards

  3. Honestly you're probably better off just changing the springs on the factory struts. Adjusties are a pain in the arse, by the time you consider stuff like the cost of buying them, the cost of a cert, probable increase in insurance costs, and the fact that unless you get really good ones they don't tend to last anywhere near as long as an OEM strut and half the time rebuilding them is a complete crap-shoot.

  5. The only problem with stock struts is the arse is almost always sagging so you then need to factor in saggybuttspacers and potentially longer bolts to go with it.

  6. Well, I am more comfortable now that it won't interfere with WOF or other legislation. The search continues for a decent system that contains everything I am looking for and that looks the part as well.

  7. LVVTA is a mess TBH. Maybe they've got better in the last couple of years, I don't know, but they're having a very hard time divorcing themselves from their roots (guys building janky kit cars in their shed) to the modern reality of modified vehicles, which is now predominantly people making japanese imports faster with bolt-on parts. The ultimate representation of this is the driveshaft hoop rule and the way it was implemented/enforced. I was once told that if I reshelled a completely factory WRX driveline (engine + gearbox + driveshaft + diff) into a non-WRX shell it would need driveshaft hoops because I had increased the power of the car by too much. This was about the point I lost faith in the LVVTA to provide pragmatic representation of the car modifying community. EDIT: This rule has subsequently changed, but it took YEARS.

  8. So an update on this saga. NZTA has referred it to the LVVTA for approval.

  9. MCA coilovers are bloody good. Can discuss options with their staff to ensure you get a setup that fits your requirements exactly. Not cheap, though well worth it in my opinion.

  10. I know people make mistakes now and then, and no one's perfect. But the number of things they've damaged or not refitted properly on my car is way past the odd slip-up you make now and then. The other thing is, considering that they screwed up just about everything they touched on my car, have they even fitted the airbag correctly? Or is that loose or mis-aligned like everything else they touched? Will it work as designed in an accident, or either not work at all or explode and take my head off? Would you be trusting someone who can't put some plastic trims back in correctly, to work on your airbag that could be the different between you living or dying?

  12. I've worked in (non-automotive) service in the past and people make mistakes, especially when under pressure from management to get S*** done etc. From their side of things, they can't really fix something unless they know about it. Heck I've dealt with quite a few workshops over the years and from time to time even the good ones make a mistake (leaving engine bay trim loose, not tightening caps, forgetting to reinstall centercaps on wheels when changing tyres... just as a few examples). After mentioning it to the workshop manager or owner I got an apology and the problem/s resolved in a quick manner with no charges. The least you can do as a customer/client (paying or non-paying) is to bring issues to the attention of the business so they have a chance to resolve it. In saying all that, I do agree that they did a terrible job and potentially caused irreparable damage to some of your interior which would leave me fuming also. However it's handled, I hope you get an apology and they repair/replace any damaged components at no cost to you.

  17. I had 4 airbags replaced in 1 week a couple. Of months ago. Surprisingly they did good job on 3 but stuffed up the nicest car. It had most aftermarket gear in it and struggled to plug back in stereo and tablet etc properly. I even left my phone number with a note beside it saying any questions at all call me. There excuse was their apprentice didn't have much experience haha

  18. I've now decided it's cheaper for me to just get the RA running with the WRX motor I've got in it than it is to trailer/transport it down haha. So I'll do that this weekend.
