  1. ae86 are the most overrated car ever made. Id much rather have an mx5, and with the change buying one you could turbo it/bigger brakes and probably add coilovers, while the ae86 will still be a stock 1.6L econobox.
  2. Yeah I just want something reliable we can beat on all day with no drama, and if something breaks its cheap to replace. I got 5 trackdays out of my wrx so it still did have a good run. Its actually heaps of fun to drive as well, same sensation of fun and speed doing 70-100kph than i got in the wrx doing 150.. My boss has a turbo one making 260ish hp@wheels and races in the jap classic series, my old boss has an ls1 in his, so im in good company if i want more power...
  3. Half cage, semi slicks, race seats/belts, decent pads, then just doing as many trackdays as I can and beat on it without a worry, something I couldnt do in my wrx. Wouldnt mind giving 2kcup a go as well. Its "gay as ****" but actually pretty fun to drive, just needs an extra 50hp as the 1.6L 115hp is a bit underpowering. It feels faster than it is though. Just bought it going halves with the other half as a cheap track hack that she can also drive as well, sif give her the keys to the wrx . Ill be buying a 3.0r wagon eventually so keeping in the boxer club.
  4. Sold STI, bought mx5 convertible. Im not sure im happy how things have turned out.
  5. I dont know how to heel toe in practice, even on the track ive never used it and just smash down the gears engine braking normally. yolo.
  6. sometimes daily driver, sometimes weekend driver, occasional track car and spirited driving. Pretty good all rounder, does those things mint PS: someone buy my car.
  7. So they are selling something equivalent to 95 octane, at 95 octane prices, but calling it something new? sounds like a solid business plan...
  8. First flying lap on semis slicks, seems they werent quite up to temp yet, whoops. [video=youtube;BkuT4-u2FS0]
  9. Went to trackday, car ran pretty well mint except for a bit of powersteering fluid doing wees in the engine bay, and a slight leak from the coolant overflow. Oh and cracking rotor number 4 now. But besides that it held up well for its first trackday since blowing it up and crashing it a year ago, so much more of a positive day. Semi slicks are so hax. pic
  10. Balls, L1. Oh mell, cheaper than previous I guess, im about 5 months overdue on rego anyway whoops, so ill have to time it to expire again when the new price comes in. At least I squeeze in under 1 year WOF's..
  11. Finally wired in sub amp/sub. Good ot have bass again. Also wired in a usb charger off the battery so I can charge/record bumper gopro at trackday next week.
  12. I know of him, he hooked me up with bendix pads once, hes not a fan of me any more you could say, though you probably already got that THough I didnt think repco did a full synth of their own brand, I only got the penrite at SCE 30% off sale so was only $50 or so.
  13. I used that Penrite HPR10 10w40+10 or whatever full synth, is that ok?
  14. I did this last week and got owned in the face by that ****ing antirattle clip flying out...Done them tons of times before without it happening >_<
  15. What did you sign up for? Help with original legacy many years back, logged back in when I bought my sti a few years back for general information/buying parts etc Where did you hear about clubsub? Google What would you like to see more of? DIY tutorials/Grassroots motorsport grasskhana/trackdays etc If you often visit but never post is there a reason or do you feel you get what you need without asking? Is there anything that you don't like? What would persuade you to become a paid member? MSNZ affiliation? Are the forums/stickys easy enough to follow? Yep, no complaints here
  16. partsouq comes to ~480inc shipping. ill see if the mechanics who will be doing it can get it any cheaper from winger
  17. sweet thanks dude. you seemed to have got yours a lot cheaper back then...
  18. Ok so I order those 2 parts then? sweet.
  19. Any idea on cost of the parts or part numbers? mechanics next door to my work quoted ~450inc gst for the labour, sound about right? Ill get them to see what the whole job will cost, i had sorta guess I wouldn't get much change from a grand.. Also might get them to look at the jumping out of 5th gear selector shaft bolt thing as well while its out.
  20. For stockish power levels, 200wkw max, do I need anything mroe than OEM exedy replacement clutch? I do trackdays, but no interest in drag racing. Or will I need something more like the HD excedy?
  21. Found out I might need a new clutch >__< WOnder if something in my hearbox is playing up to wear it out, when marc put the new engine in he reckoned it still had a bit of meat left that shoudl last me a while, but it seems that sometimes in 4th or 5th gear if i put my foot down from 2500 rpm, when the turbo spools to full boost a little after 3k it either hesitates or goes up 500rpm then back down to normal and pulls normally.
  22. Did you kick it as bad as I did when I blew my big end?
  23. lol, i bought some in the boxing day sales for 50$ thinking it was a mint deal for when i need to do an oil change..
