  1. You aiming to get a manual? I'd never look back to a 3rd gen unless there really was no other way of sticking to the 4th. Pretty hard to find one in good condition too. I've always thought the 4th's felt considerably bigger and heavier than the 3rds but that may have something to do with moving into a wagon from a sedan. I agree on getting a cheap 4th gen gtb. Way more refined, more reliable, easier to tune/mod. Or just increase the mortgage and get a sweet sweet supercharger for the 3.0 and have some serious fun, sure the mrs won't mind
  2. 170wkw seems pretty high for your mods ay. You sure you got all the gear ratio's spot on and the wheels diameter? Will hugely effect the results if either of them are incorrect with virtual dyno
  3. Can't teally do that sadly. They have a completely different flange location to the y pipe so you can't use them with any other y pipes either. Unless hacking things up.
  4. Yea thats the one i'm lookig into. Reckon they look awesome as. Tips might be a tad long since the JDM cars have much shorter rear bumpers. Just have to make sure its the v3 one. Quite a few US places still have stock of the older ones. There were heaps of fitment issues with the older versions, and they used some slip joints rather than all flanges. Haven't found any NZ dealers but with the US stores after shipping and NZD conversion they seem to be about $1600 + all the import taxes and fees. Hence not just jumping on it straight away. Still cheaper than the Jap alternatives though.
  5. I'll give mine a measure tonight/tomorrow. Still got the car up on ramps from last weekend. Actually close to dropping some cash into a Invidia quadtip catback for mine. Just still not completely sold on it yet. But prefer it to any of the full on cannon options
  6. I'm keen. Just haven't had a confirmation reply from throttlehappy yet.
  7. Go for vf45/46 for a solid reliable turbo. Only real alternative is from kinugawa who make the TD04HLA 19T for performance comparable to the stock turbo's or the slightly higher rated TD04HL 20T, supposedly around 10% higher flow so should give it a bit more guts at the top end which these cars lack so greatly. 2nd hand vf45/46 is obviously the best choice if money's tight though
  8. In saying that though, the facelift models seem to have the same turbo regardless. 2006 got vf45 and 07 vf46, haven't heard about 08 onwards for comparison. Try get hold of a vf45 or 46. Didn't invisible just recently swap out a vf38 for a vf45
  9. Yea heard it was fairly carcinogenic so wore a mask. Ended up using a hole saw on a extension piece. Then the big smashy smashy bar. Got all the wire mesh and other steel pieces out too. All back together now. Just got to find some time to do some logging to see how bad the overboost will be. Can see why they're such a huge restriction. Never thought the holes would be that tight
  10. Could tee it off one of the existing fuses using something like this. Imagine NZ Jaycar sells them too. http://www.jaycar.com.au/p/SF5125
  11. With these ones since the amp powers the sub and all the speakers replacing it is rather involved. Easiest thing to do to get more doof doof is to buy a new sub and amp. Then find the wires attached to the stock sub. Extend them to a hi lo level converter which then gives the rca input for your amp. This is exactly what i ran with mine before completely gutting it out and replacing everything
  12. Not the easiest task to undertake. Need to splice into the main multi core wire feeding the amp and then re route that to a new amp that can take a high level input. Or alternatively keep the mcintosh amp in use and run the outputs through RCA hi low level converters to feed the new amp with a RCA source. Although inneficiant this may be the better solution as the Mcintosh headunit does not have a sub output and it is infact synthesised within the mcintosh amp. So this is the bast way to do it if you plan on using an aftermarket sub The speaker impedance is also an issue. So you have to make sure the speaker wiresare run the same way to maintain 4ohm impedance.
  13. Should have probably paid more attention to where I pulled this bracket off cos right now i've got no idea where to put it Edit: Intercooler bracket, got there in the end
  14. Had nothing to do today so decided to get stuck in to the removal. Was going to originally try take it out as one piece but decided that would be too much of a headache manoeuvring out Does that gasket look alright or would it be worth replacing? The centre ring looks sweet but the surround is pretty flakey. Guessing taking both cats out is the way to go. Are they internally attached at all? Looking at them I feel like i could just smash it out and then maybe get a wirewheel in there to break up the rest of it.
  15. Good for giving cyclists a quick tap if they decide to stray out of their bike lanes.
  16. You turned into sharp rising driveway in yours yet? There's enough flex in mine when its got most of the weight on one rear wheel to actually hear the plastic interior pieces in the boot moving around. Was quite suprised the first time it did it.
  17. 15k will get you a pretty nice Spec B model of either car. Have you considered the 2.5gt model. Only came as NZ new and don't seem to get them older than 2007/08. With a reflash on those the torque is miles better than what the 2.0gt gets
  18. Haha thats an expensive toy to misplace. Probably worth your while now you should be able to give the wife's car a bit of a tweak too. Only thing i might struggle with is actually getting it out underneath. The ramps and jackstands i've got are only 300-400 high so navigating it out might be a pain.
  19. Except for the lack of connectivity with the mcintosh, which then due to its complexity is a real bastard to change out.
  20. Yea i'd be keen to give it a shot. Might have a go at getting the heatshield off tonight to see how bad the downpipe bolts are. You still wanting to have a crack at getting the rom off yours with my laptop and cable or you get there in the end with yours? Have PM'd Matt on here. Not sure if i'd have more luck getting hold of him on here or the liberty forum so hopefully hear something.
  21. She did that or thats how they returned it to her?
  22. Cheers man, but already got a tactrix. Used it for my last cryotune. Could go back to him but the idea of doing it on a dyno and getting it done straight away rather than a month of f'ing round would be worth the extra coin. Quite like the idea of differing boost maps based on SI drive mode which i believe he can do too.
  23. Thinking about gettig a retune done. Just feels like it needs a bit more go than it got from the last tune. Used to hit high 18s with whatever weird tune it had on it when i first got it. Tamed back to below 16 currently.
