  1. Sweet thanks for that. This is the first 4WD that I have had so was a little unsure of how it workedI had a feeling it was supposed to do that but best to check. Handbrakeys on the way home from work for me!!!
  2. I was cleaning the brakes yesterday. I notice that with the car in park the front wheel didn't rotate , but the rear wheel did. Is this supposed to happen? I thought with 4wd that it would not. Or is this to do with the centre diff? (this was with only one wheel off the ground)
  3. Where are you getting it from? I would make sure that they fix the exhaust before you pick it up. You should get a new warrant on it if from a dealer, so that should be something they need to fix
  4. Hi Paul I have a 3rd gen legacy 2.5 (1998) and I love it. I brought my car through Crowesport and they have been really good with any issues that I had with the car during the warranty period and I would recommend them to anyone looking for a car. As for head gasket issues, you shouldn't have a problem with this model, as said before was an earlier gen issue. Better power than a non turbo 2 litre.
  5. Ive been to pickapart (Christchurch)a few times. Are you talking about removing an engine?? I haven't done it but I have seen a few guys removing them, they have a engine hoist on site and it looks like you just wheel it to the gate and load onto your trailer, as for other parts you just go to town removing what ever you need to get access to what you want. If you just want the frost plug and can get it out then if its not on the price list they will work something out (at least that's my experience)
  6. And if you buy a cheap knock off OBD2 reader it may die on you when you plug it in (or shortly afterwards). The cheap ones are s**t and are cheap for a reason.
  7. Yeah wasn't looking t get same sound, just wanting a little louder to what I have now. The idea is to do the exhaust in stages when money available. First muffler, then headers early next year, and maybe mid section after that. Not looking for anything in performance gains as such just wanting to sound better
  8. Heard back this morning, apparently N/A flanges are different to the turbo flanges. Might get a price to see how much to weld on my flange/rear section to muffler.
  9. Good detective work leading to a good result.
  10. Not too sure if the same rear section as the GT. Will email them to check. If it is I may well order it once my next pay goes through (or maybe the week after depending on Christmas shopping). In the new year will be looking at a set of these hopefully http://www.ebay.com/itm/Subaru-Impreza-Legacy-97-05-N-A-2-5L-2-2L-1-6L-2-0L-Exhaust-Manifold-Header/251513942005?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D27538%26meid%3D518d15a9018640ed9dab50eea5da5d69%26pid%3D100011%26prg%3D11353%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D10%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D261644149202
  11. Have a little cash to spare at the moment and thought I might get a replacement muffler, wanting for better sound but not too loud as its a family wagon. I have seen these but not sure on the brand or how loud. Anyone got one of these or know much about them. http://www.subaruspeed.co.nz/products/muffler-fgk-legacy-98-03-wagon--2 or http://www.subaruspeed.co.nz/products/muffler-fgk-legacy-98-03-wagon
  12. Not sure if worth the price, but it will come with a warranty (1 year I think) and Crowes are really good to deal with. I had a couple of problems with mine and was sorted no questions asked and always had a service vehicle to use. I doubt you'd get the price lower as they say the price on the car is the lowest they can do it for.

  14. Looking to get my Diff and auto fluids done, are oil changers any good? They have 2 services for the auto: 1 is full flush and replace fluids, 2 is drain and refill which only does about 30% of the fluids. Do I need a full flush? and if not would I be able to do the drain and refill myself? ( have some mechanical experience). Or is there some where better in Christchurch.
  15. If shes doing a course at the Academy I could stake (not stalk) her out, I work just down the road?
  16. +1 with state, also on account of age and pretty good history - 2 claims in last 5 years. Don't go with Westpac/Lumley - I got absolutely shafted by them with a claim. Guy crashed into me and the only paid what the determined was market value which was about half of insured value (the other guy was with Westpac as well and there were a total of 3 cars as well so I think they were trying to get out of paying more). AA seems good as well, the Missus just had a payout from them after here car was written off and they paid out full insured value.
  17. Sweet, Good to know. I did find some info about the fuse, but not about having the spare on the rear.
  18. Ok, so on the way to work I ran over some glass, haven't been able to check if it has gone flat yet. My spare is a 15" and the std wheels are 16". I have read that I would need to put it in FWD mode to avoid damage to the diffs. From what I have read you put a fuse in to put into FWD mode, is there a spare fuse for this and is it marked? also would it make a difference if the flat was at the front vs rear?
  19. Not really today- but just got back from a week in Wanaka. Took the car from Christchurch down to Oamaru then Moeraki, through Palmerston, Alexandra, Cromwell and to Wanaka. Took it over the crown range to Queenstown for a day and then back home through trough the Lindis Pass, Tekapo and Geraldine. The car was awesome, even fully loaded it handled really well was fun to drive and the family had a comfy ride. I still had enough power to overtake easily. Only thing was it did smell very hot and slightly oily one time, and at the top of the crown range s bends it smelt hot and I could smell coolant, but both times temp was fine and car drove normally and all fuids were at normal levels. I will give it a nice clean tomorrow and take it in for a final check before my warranty runs out. In short - best car I have driven for this type of journey.
  20. More for sound, I realize theres not a lot to make it go faster and is a family wagon and I'm happy with how it performs. I thought with stock turbo headers I would need to get a turbo cross member and would it bolt directly to the rest of the exhaust?
  21. Have been looking at these on Ebay. From my research they should bolt up to the existing factory exhaust. The thing I am wanting to know is will the manifold clear everything in the front? Do I need to change anything i.e sump or cross member, water hoses, will it fit an auto? I have heard a clip on Youtube of these compared to to stock (with aftermarket muffler) and they sound good. I have a Rev A 1998 BH wagon auto http://www.ebay.com/itm/Subaru-Impreza-Legacy-97-05-N-A-2-5L-2-2L-1-6L-2-0L-Exhaust-Manifold-Header-/261644149202?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Make%3ASubaru&hash=item3ceb34e1d2&vxp=mtr
  22. As usual posted before checking that there wasn't already a thread about this. One day I may learn, one day. Still a great video. Love the start to this one
  23. I have a 2.5 legacy (not outback version). I haven't driven the 3 ltr version so I can't compare it to that, but I have driven the 2 l non turbo and turbo. I found my 2.5l was still enough power for what I need which is taking the family and dogs out, MTB etc. I get about mid 10l's/100kms. My car is also a a bit older than the ones you are looking at, but for what you sound like you want to do I would say if you can't get the 3l the 2.5 should be fine, especially if you don't want to go turbo.
  24. I would agree with asking the engine builder as they should know what would work best. As for the research I must admit I looked into this and found that everyone seems to have a slightly different opinion, So the research would not of told him nothing, it would of told him too much.
