  1. Agree with all your points bro. And yup pretty sure I removed the pill. Re ran all the tubes from turbo / waste gate and breather pipe with new ones. The feel of the car in power is worse than it was after the tune. That's why I'm not happy. It used to spool much quicker before the tune aye, and had no problems with knock before running higher boost.
  2. So I just spoke to David from tune tech (aka old torque performance tuner). He said they had another tuner there (the aircraft technician who tuned the 233kw v8 well), who has apparently left as well. So that explains why the owner was doing the tunes, and therefore the difference in tune quality of mine vs the others that have posted their experiences.
  3. When did you have those tunes done man? And do you recall who from there did the tuning?
  4. oh wow! Right so he does road tunes now. That in mind, and him being the expert he is. Do you think I'd be better off getting a tune tech road Tune or driving down to dtech for a dyno tune?
  5. Well i've booked in with him for next friday to resolve my issues. He said if im still not happy then he will refund. Im thinking now that i know what i know, I'll ask him not to waste his time on the day as Im taking it elsewhere.
  6. Flip you seem to know everything! Haha thanks bro. That would explain a lot. I was wondering why the owner was doing the tuning? But yup, will be getting a refund for sure now.
  7. Right, so it wasn't the older guy Rob? Rob is the owner. He tuned mine aye. So i'll take a wild guess and say the same tuner that did yours isn't around anymore maybe?
  8. Who from there tuned your car bro? Also you running the same turbo? Vf37?
  9. Wow. How the heck do they have such good reviews? Everyone raves on about them. Could they all be ignorant?
  10. Haha legend. Man u guys are awesome. Really appreciate all the advice!
  11. Phil that would be so awesome! Haven't got anyone who could pull the tune aye. Was thinking it would be good to do that as a backup. Pretty they said they don't lock their tunes anymore
  12. Oh Sweetas bro. So dtech pretty Much the best option? Oh what about st-hitech? Soichi is in Japan apparently, but they have new owners and some dyno upgrades.
  13. What do you mean by don't need to sort out the cold start bro? Will that not change off my stock map?
  14. Far out, I don't know what to do now. So probably won't go to e&h. They ripped off a mate doing an engine rebuild and mucked him around. I thought psbm were really good, but it appears you guys haven't had good tunes from them. Who from there tuned your cars rubbish? If it's not those three. Who else in Auckland is good? Dtech is pretty far to limp drive the car aye
  15. So you don't reccomend Possum Bourne? Or the tuner Dan Kane? Apparently he used to work for E&H
  16. So just spoke to the owner Rob from torque performance who did my tune. And these were his comments: AFR He mentioned they tune all subys between 10.5 and 11.5 as they tend to knock past that. Apparently mine was getting a bit of knock at higher AFR. The car still smells rich as and is chewing through gas though.. I am wondering if i should run BP98 instead of Mobile 97.5? Don't know if it will make jack all difference. Also my car was nowhere as rich before i dont think? Can tell from the smell and the lack of black soot i had on my rear bumper and boot lid before vs now. Boost coming on Late He said he pretty much cant do anything about this, as there is no restriction on boost early on? Only at target boost (which he has set to 18psi on 3rd/4th). He mentioned that the 3-port solenoid is harder to tune and achieve the results with, and that it doesnt make any difference having the stock solenoid vs 3port. Just that 3 port is harder to work with. He said if i wanted to have the boost come on early, i would need to sacrifice stable boost for boost spike early on (which would mean it comes on early but is hard to control). He also said theres not much that can be done to overcome the varying load across gears that results in different max boosts on each gear (current 1st is 14.5psi, 2nd is 16psi, and 3rd and above are around 18psi). What do you guys think? I've got an appointment booked with him next Friday to re-assess tables and fine tune. If I'm not happy at that point he will give me a refund. Would i be better off going somewhere else? Possum Bourne?
  17. I've been speaking to Julius over the phone, and their tuner is Dan Kane
  18. Lol i've done all the necessary mods to make it go hard (also boost came on quicker before the tune). Currently got: # 3 inch turbo back exhaust (including downpipe) # walbro 342 fuel pump # one step colder spark plugs # gfb recirc BOV # removed intake silencer # greddy panel filter in stock airbox last compression test (2 months ago) was mint, with 5psi variance. The tuner said the car was running perfect with no issues, so makes no sense that he would tune it rich to compensate for knock?
  19. Cheers for all the info guys, i think i got enough info now to have an in depth conversation with Torque Perfomance. I also spoke to Possum Bourne on the drive home. Awesome guy, and spent 20 mins over the phone talking over how they approach tuning and gave me his honest opinion (which wasn't a sales pitch). If i do end up getting a refund, thinking these guys will probably be where i spend my money. They are about 2 weeks away from getting their brand new dyno setup (temperature simulating abilities for hot + cold checking etc).
  20. What about on 1st and 2nd man? Apperently its because of the stock ecu? Cant get even boost across all gears because of load? Not sure on the details
  21. If I was to go with someone else, who would you recommend? E&H, Possum Bourne etc
  22. Did you have similar results with your faulty one?
  23. Exactly my thoughts bro! But i didnt want to argue with the pro as i didn't have full confidence in my reasoning. It was tuned by Torque Performance in Avondale (raving good reviews), and apparently they do not use ECUTECH anymore, which is good. But eitherway i have good options right now. Either: a) Tell them im not happy and want my money back. They will then revert to the orginal map and refund my cash. b) Get a different tuner to tune with cash from A c) Work with them to get the tune I want (maybe get a different guy to tune it - will need to chat with them)
  24. Cheers bro. It had Mobil 97.5 aye. Yeah wanted to get my thoughts together with help from you guys first before i want back to them. This is my first experience really getting a car tuned. It made 215kw at 5750rpm aye. Posted the dyno chart in the OP, are you guys able to see the image?
  25. Hey guys, So i finally forked out the cash for a Torque Performance tune ($1300). I also got my 3-port mac valve installed as well (annoying as clicking now though lol). I can't say that i am fully satisfied with the tune. While i can now put my foot down without fear of blowing my engine, the car seems slower and boost comes on later than it did before? That being said, it does feel good after 5000rpms. They have only tuned to max boost of 18psi? Which seems a bit weird to me, as that is pretty much stock boost. He mentioned that, that is the max the turbo can do (which i don't want to believe unless someone here can say otherwise) - I've got a 2003 v8 STI twin scroll so i'm guessing its a VF37. On 1st gear its only boosting 15-16psi (it used to hit about 19psi before it was tuned). What are your thoughts? I have 14 days to get them to revert to the previous tune and get a refund if I am not satisfied. Is there anyone else who would do a better job? Or is this as good as it gets?
