  1. Three years to nearly the same day and the passenger side has now s*** the bed. I found this thread by chance through Google and was happy to find out it wasn't the same side breaking again!
  2. Police stopped the car driving through Henderson last night, two arrests, limp wristed charges placed, and one smashed up ignition... Got to wait for insurance to assess the damage now :(
  3. Winger pricing is good on cambelt kits, bought one recently, can't remember the exact price though sorry! $580 maybe? All tensioners and idlers.
  4. Zero security features from factory, JDM import. I guess NZ would be different, UK HAS to be immobilised from factory from 1998 onwards. I bought it thinking it would naturally be covered, found out it wasn't, and it's been on the to do list for a while now! But yeah, too late.
  5. pretty sure you pay the excess on thefts
  6. Following on from a post in the Stolen section: What would it be like replacing the ignition barrel and door lock if required? (guessing that is how they got in) I'm looking at a high insurance excess if it is recovered, so could do the work myself. Guess a supplier like Strongs can supply a matching set of locks, but any guesses what they would charge for these? And already know there is no immobiliser, so no computer to code to the keys either? But if the bodywork is messed with then it'll have to be bodyshop+insurance to fix...
  7. Long shot, and jumping the gun here.. But what would it be like replacing the ignition barrel and door lock if required? 8. No, nothing. Completely standard car, very unremarkable, but it was mine!
  9. Had it stolen, which sucks! Thread in the stolen section, HMF296, Grey 2006 wagon, Hobsonville Auckland.
  10. MY 2006 Subaru Legacy Wagon - Grey- was stolen from Hastings Street in Hobsonville, Auckland last night. Totally standard, nothing to make it stand out. Sucks as I had filled the tank the day before using cheap Thursdays at Gull... And just got it back from panelbeaters, and done the timing belt at Christmas, and loved the little thing! HMF296
  11. Got it from the dealer for $60 in the end, don't think that is too much more that Repco/Supercheap factoring in it is a genuine part with all the extra clips and circlip required etc. Need to get going with BNT and the likes of those guys, but considering I picked it up from Subaru Saturday morning and it is already fitted by myself (working around this weather!) I'm happy to have gotten it fixed quick. Didn't want to keep driving on it and risk longer term damage being done. And yeah, was just the inner so followed the vid, and no need to mess with axle nuts etc.
  12. Just looking under the bonnet prepping for a timing belt change, and saw a lot of dark grease on the drivers side... https://imgur.com/a/JrUZWSG So boot is split, must have only been like that for a few days so have caught it early and no noise yet. So best option? Dealer say $70 for the boot kit, Repco says have axles for $240-260 Think just changing the boot will be ok, but looking for advice on what would be the normal 'go to' fox for you guys? This guy makes it look easy, I don't have an impact though, so is standing on the brakes enough to undo the hub nut using a large breaker bar? https://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/replace-rebuild-torn-cv-boot-and-axle-108975.html This guy makes it look even easier! Bit of debate on if taking the ball joint out is easy or not, my car isn't rusty, so think it should be ok, that or move the whole strut around. Cheers! All this right before the holidays too...
  13. Thanks all, got around to phoning the dealer and they do the prices on trade special for all, so cambelt kit is $345+GST and waterpump with thermostat/gasket etc is $109+GST Not worth anything else at that price!
  14. Looking for timing belt stuff on Partsouq, but for my EJ203 in an 06 BP5 2.0 NA they don't come up with anything for a waterpump or for a cambelt, either as just the belt or a 'kit' Can get the other idlers and tensioners though. Any ideas, am I looking in the wrong place? Thanks! Partmaster have this one from GMB which looks ok: https://www.partmaster.co.nz/water-pump-subaru-ej-el-1-pipe-offset-flange-19215?returnurl=%2fproductlist%2fvehicleparts%3fregistrationnumber%3dhmf296%26variantid%3d9878%26make%3dsubaru%26model%3dlegacy%26year%3d2006%26enginesize%3d2000%26fueltype%3dpetrol%26chassisno%3dbp5-107844%26sort%3dprice_desc%26itemcategorycode%3dautomotive%2bcooling
  15. Awesome! Cool, will give it a go then. Read about the boxer engine with gaskets being submerged for long periods (permanently really) so was interesting to read up on, how the additives and inhibitors are more important in these engines.
  16. Have read that Subarus are fussy over coolant, but unsure if this is just newest models, what would you think about using Penrite Green Premix in a 2006 Legacy 2.0 NA??? https://www.repco.co.nz/en/oils-fluids/engine-oils-fluids/coolant/penrite-350-000km-green-coolant-premix-5l/p/A1270794 Doing the timing belt so a good chance to drain and flush and not touch it for another 100,000km Or does it have to be Blue/Red/Unicorn piss or something specific?
  17. Looking to do the timing belt on my 06 2.0 NA Legacy Wagon near Christmas, so getting pieces ready for it now. Just looking at parts suppliers currently, and first query is with Partsouq, wanting to get genuine parts as plan to keep the car, but Partsouq don't seem to sell either the waterpump or the timing belt? All other items are ok from there though and keenly priced. If they can't supply them, then where else is good to look? Obviously genuine might be dealer only so will contact them soon, but a decent Gates belt or similar would also be ok. And I've seen the Gates kits come with the cam and crank seals, my car has done 200,000KM and not sure if they've been done before, but doesn't look like they are leaking now, worth doing as preventative maintenance, or just leave it if they are fine? One of those jobs that once you are in there you might as well sort of thing, but one of the online guides/Youtube make much mention of doing them at all which I thought was odd. Have seen on the back of the passenger side cam there is a foam O-ring seal, and mine is worn and loose, so will replace that, and the diagrams on Partsouq show some other foam gasket seals around the plastic covers, again worth replacing, thinking if they are slightly misted with oil then a cam seal might need to be done too... Cheers!
  18. Chances of getting trade prices from walking in off the street?
  19. Thanks mate, welcome to the forums there too. Keep that attitude up and enjoy the place... Is that where the oil fills the head and can't drain back quick enough?
  20. I'm used to traditional inline 4 cylinder engines, where a crank is way down at the bottom splashing through oil and pistons up top away from the stuff! Thinking about my boxer 4, I thought why isn't the oil sloshing up behind the pistons, as that 5L I pour in at service time must be sitting somewhere! In the image below (99%) sure this is a Subaru EJ something something style motor, where would the oil level sit with the engine not running, and when it is pumped around the engine, where is it going? Because 'up' to the heads/cams is actually more like sideways to get there? And gravity isn't helping it drain back that quickly being horizontal?
  21. What size did you order? That website tells me I need a 24"+19" But my car measures 24"+18", Supercheap and EuroCarParts also state 24"+18"
  22. Gripless Only getting it carbon dated would be a sure way to know! For the money, and the fact my last car never had one anyway, I was excited to change it! Standard condition for most of these cabin filters I guess? Car is a 2006, the filter doesn't have Subaru markings on it, so probably never got changed after the (2-3 year?) Dealer servicing stopped in Japan. On these hot days there was a bit of an extra smell in the car that I hope changing this fixes, and the fan didn't blow much air on the lower speed settings that I hope this fixes too., I like the fan at low speeds when it is nice and quiet but still produces a nice breeze.
  23. Standard dirty old cabin filter for new one today. Love the fact it is so easy to do!
  24. Yeah, will be ordering parts from there from now on! One stop Genuine shop!
  25. Honestly yes, SuperCheap had a random pack of 10, one looked liked it might be large enough, problem is I don't have 10 random cars at home that need oil changes, just one I want to do properly... Repco, they had a three pack of one type that was marked as an Imperial size, might;ve done the job but not 100% sure Shop guy didn't know. Might have just been low stock at each store I checked I guess, but the staff knowledge wasn't great. Repco boasted over 100,000 car parts available, but not a common service item? I'm missing something surely?
