  1. I was told that the flywheel and pressure plate was the same size for 230 or 240mm clutch plate and that the 230mm plate was used in the Legacy to allow more clutch slip for the heavier car and driver.
  2. My ones a facelift jdm.Wrx Sti clutch kit through Wingers. The mufflers are for a bp model,so will probably just get the front pipe modded as its rubbing on a cross member and most of the weight of both mufflers is hanging on one rear exhaust mount causing vibration when on boost. Will do the mufflers at a later date when I do the tgv deletes.
  3. Got all my parts together today for my Legacy,Sti clutch kit, front axles, suspension bushes, pitch rod and Sti quad outlet mufflers.
  4. Saw your car at TuneTechnic,David’s another good bloke.
  5. Was out at Subirex today talking to Ajay.Impressed with his enthusiasm for doing a good job and Subaru work history.
  6. YouTube FlatironsTuning. All about heat wrap, ceramic coating and reflective heat tape. I’ve used hpc coating on a Gc8 Rage steel exhaust system, downpipe, center and Sti muffler.Sold the Sti hpc coated muffler to a clubsub member.Used heat wrap on stainless downpipes.Never had after market headers.
  7. Will have to see if Subaru rights all it’s wrongs with block, bore wall strength.Longer stroke says better torque.Smaller piston diameter then 2.5 says lighter piston with less inertia.Hopefully the Subaru R&D guys know what they are doing.
  8. There’s a lot of problems with the 2.5 engines, bad heads, pistons and bore flex.Expensive to remedy with a flawed block, thin bore walls and big diameter pistons. The 2.5 engine was made popular in the US because they have rubbish gas and wanted decent power/torque outputs for bragging and moving there heavier late model cars.
  9. If putting a Sti turbo on a twin scroll legacy was that easy I’d have one sitting in my car now.Luxury of hindsight,I should have brought the US version with the 2.5 single scroll turbo, only I think the 2.5 engine is a dog.Subaru are bringing out a new 2.4 block (FA24 94mm bore x 86 mm stroke 2387 cc chain driven) which should remedy most of the 2.5 failings.
  10. You will trash a good set of road tyres on the track and trash a good set of track tyres on the road. The road tyres discussed eg. RE003 and PS4’s are mid range performance road tyres, made for everyday weather conditions, must have decent wear, ride well and be relatively quiet on our shitty NZ roads.I used cheap Yokahama’s (can’t remember which type,I sold a set 16” rays te37 mags with Yokohama tyres to ginganinga) as they did the job and I didn’t care if I wrecked them. Would you play a game of rugby in dress shoes and go out to town in your rugby boots.
  11. Didn’t say it was a good test.Personally I don’t rate the RE003’s.I’ve owned a few sets of these on different Subaru’s.The PS2,3 and 4’s are way better.I’ve had all three models of the PS on different Subaru’s.Currently have the PS4’s on my Legacy and Outback.Swapped out the new PS3’s on my Legacy for the PS4’s.
  12. I’ve seen a facelift legacy with a piggyback link,Sti inlet manifold and fmic done by a company in Wellington. Haltech do a plug and play computer for the pre facelift legacy.I looked at doing this last year and most of the issues were canbus, the dash information, lack of easy turbo upgrades and weak axles/cv’s.As you know I’ve given up on modifying my facelift nz new jdm legacy for this reason.I’ll keep this car jdm with Sti mufflers,Arc tmic upgrade and a v7 Sti shortblock. Except for the 89-02 legacy’s,the engines have always been a pain to modify.Years ago I did a motec single turbo conversion to a 94 RS.Thats one car I wish I had never sold.
  13. Check out May issue ‘MOTOR’ car mag for 11 x tyre test.Includes Nitto Invo but no Bridgestone or Michelin’s.
  14. I reckon they are as good as the znoelli discs that I have used on different Subaru’s over the years.
  15. Yes,sold as pair’s.I replaced my Outback calipers with my calipers off my bl Legacy.I used Subtech’s Nakamoto discs and pads.Great combo for the money.Brembo conversion on the bl uses dba t3 alloy hats front and t2 rear, endless pads.wanted the t3 rears but they weren’t available at the time.I’d rate the dba t2 discs as average for the price.
  16. Your ps3 225’s may have been a bit stretched on the 9” rims...
  17. I’ve had Bridgestone re711’s on a gc8,can’t really comment on tyres I haven’t driven on.The s02’s were the old model.Replaced them with s03’s,didn’t like them.I looked at the ps4s,softer sidewalls, softer compound and way more expensive then the ps4.
  18. A front pair of Bridgestone RE002’s and 003’s would last me just over 10,000-12,000 K’s.The last decent road tyres Bridgestone made were the so2’s.Changed to Michelin pilot sport 2,3 and 4’s.Way better k’s out of the Michelin’s,quieter, better grip, turn in and great in the wet.Had a new set of 3’s on my Legacy,as soon as the 4’s arrived I swapped them out.The first shipment of pilot sport 4’s were a softer compound and had less writing on the sidewalls. The NZ tyres have a harder rubber compound.I have the 4’s also on my Outback.
  19. Shout out to Gareth and the guys at Subtech.Picked up my Outback 3.0R with the calipers off my bl b spec fitted.Used there new range of discs and ceramic pads.First impressions are good.I’ve used Znoelli for over 10 years and Mintex.Using Dba and Endless on the bl.
  20. Using it initially with the factory twin scroll vf45.
  21. Anyone here installed a Process West tmic to a twin scroll 2.0L?
  22. PBMS 19.8 psi 715nm TT 18.0 psi 385 nm Car went onto PBMS Dyno three times for reflash after car lost tune.No knocking,or fault codes.TT found the passenger side exhaust avcs was playing up.The winding in the oil solenoid valve motor had a break. Regarding boost and power output, car runs turbo back 2.5” decat exhaust with factory mufflers.Possibly shows how inefficient the factory tmic is.
  23. No leak, just a small turbo running out of puff.Yeah, the efr turbos are nice. Was looking at the 6258 twin scroll,vf36 on steroids.Spoke to a guy in the States, mentioned that if you don’t like turbo whine this is not the turbo for you.
  24. I’ll use my factory headers.200-210 kw atw and max torque kicking in just after 3000-3500 rpm makes for a great practical road car.Vf45 is pretty much maxed out at 18 psi, full boost starts at 2800 rpm and stays flat to 5200 rpm and tapers off. Has been tuned running 19.8 psi, torque comes in harder but boost tapers off earlier.Computer would not hold tune.My thoughts are that the vf45 turbo is working outside it’s efficiency range above 18 psi,9.5 compression and tmic.Power for both tunes 185 kw atw on different dyno’s. Don’t forget the Legacy short block starts to get unreliable at 200 kw atw and the heads run out of flow at 240-250 kw atw.
