  1. Yeah it did lose a bit of response but it was definitely worthwhile. I agree with you about not changing the turbo without the ecu also, it makes sense to do both at the same time.
  2. I swapped out my TD04 in my v2 WRX for a TD05, and at the same time switched the standard ecu for a v2 sti RA version. I also have a 3inch downpipe and an upgraded intake so right after I did this it was running well apart from occasional boost spike issues. I installed a boost tee and set the boost to about 1bar, it goes really well and and has been running without any problems for over 10,000 ks now, I would definitely recommend this combination of mods on a v2.
  3. Yea the factory solenoid works perfectly, or it did when i was running 10psi on the td04, but I was told I would need some other form of boost control once running the td05 and the sti ecu, which seems accurate, as boost tapers off much sooner than I would have expected with the td05 running 15psi and using the standard WRX solenoid.
  4. Okay sweet as, thanks. I just assumed if the solenoid had no signals it would cause the ECU to throw codes, but I'll do this tomorrow.
  5. Hey guys, I have recently installed an Sti ecu and a Td05h in my 1996 v2 WRX. It goes alot better than it did before, but the boost control is unreliable on the standard WRX solenoid. To remedy this I have purchased a Turbosmart Boost tap, and was just wondering which side of the boost solenoid I should put the tap on? As in should i install it on the compressor half of the line after the solenoid, or the actuator side. Or something else altogether.... Any help would be much appreciated
  6. Hey mate, i just put a siamese downpipe on my v2 wrx and it was off a later model (v5 i think), just thought I'd let you know the flange that bolts to the mid section didn't match up directly, it was on the wrong angle. Was simple enough to fix though. cut the flange, rotate and re-weld. Definately a worthwhile mod =) it could have just been the downpipe i got but just thought I'd let you know.
  7. Upgraded my WRX with a TD05, V2 STI RA ecu, and a siamese downpipe. ;D
  8. just like this one...http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-parts-accessories/Performance/Air-filters/auction-281932397.htm
  9. My HKS foam filter is a dry filter.. which means no oil, yours could be too?
  10. No, it has been done from the cat back, but if i were to upgrade the turbo i would put a siamese downpipe in at same time, while the turbo was off. Only other mods are Turbosmart bov, boost gauge, 17's and springs. I also have an HKS pod filter and a stainless intake pipe waiting to go on but I'm just waiting until i buy some material to make a cold air box out of before it all goes in
  11. DPI sorry that u feel your advice wasn't listened to, i completely understand that buying an sti is the more sensible option from a monetary point of view. Thanks very much for your input and to every one else that posted... also sorry if my original post was unclear. I don't expect STI power from these mods at all, but i think it will make my car a little bit more fun than the average wrx. I'm still not sure what i want to do at the moment, i think I will wait until it is the end of my holidays and see how much coin i have saved and then re-evaluate the best option for me.
  12. My rex isn't a ****ter at all lol, its one of the tidiest v2's i've ever seen, but i highly doubt it'd sell for 8k.
  13. Sounds like a pretty worthwhile mod for the money... i might have to do that (td05/ecu) It would keep me entertained until i have the money to upgrade to a proper sti.. its a hard decision lol
  14. yea i see that this is the way to go... but out of interest, what kind of afm and injectors do v2 sti's run?
  15. Yea thanks for the help guys, selling is actually a good idea for me too as i will be living in the city next year and won't need a vehicle... but then again thats the reason why a project car was suited to me, because it didnt matter if it was in bits in my mums shed haha. It was worth asking if this upgrade was simple and worthwhile, but a genuine sti is going to be much better anyway.
