Best driving roads in New Zealand

aim

Recommended Posts

I want peoples opinions on the best ribbon of tarmac in New Zealand. Personally, I love the roads around Queenstown, but can't be specific as I don't know them well enough! Tracks don't count :)

Most of the roads in the South Island. I prefer doing a "road trip" down there compared to the North Island. We spent two weeks (in the subby) doing loops around the south island (long story but had lots of return trips around the place due to hubbys job. Some amazing roads, and scenery. And the further south and over to the west coast less cops (well it appeared that way to us lol).

+1 For the Kaimais and Vinegar hill, done both often as they happen to be on routes between my stores :D

The para paras is also a lot of fun, Must have done these 100+ times in the last 2 years :D

All of these roads you dont need to be doing anuything silly to be a little challenged and just perk up your day a bit with the sights and slight challenge.

Add the Pahiatua Track, where you can have fun under the speed limit.

Para paras (I live in Raetihi at one end of it) actually really cool in a fire truck under lights and sirens :)

Gentle annie (Tiahape to Napier) 99% sealed now

SH4 between Taumaranui and Te Kuiti :)

I have to admit having driven all over both the south island and north island... the south does tend to have better roads, with less traffic and cops. Not that cops should matter, of course :P

I love the west coast and q/town roads. CRAP. Google navigation told me to take crown range road, but I took the state highway. Dammit! Always listen to google, it really does know everything :/

I guess any back country road around that area is a nice drive

yeah.. after driving the whole way up from Chch to Auckland, I must say the roads down south are a lot better...

even the surface finish was a lot better...

roads up north are alot rougher and bumpier..

Also, one way bridges FTMFW! :)

Sealed:

The Waikato (trying to follow Clint to his mum's house).

Basically anywhere between Taupo and Hamiltron West of SH1 (+the Kaimai's).

West Coast between Hokitika and Haast.

Gravel:

Back road from Picton to Blenheim and the dead end out round Port Underwood. Av speed ~35kph ;D

Hakataramea Pass from Kurow to the Mackensie Basin (best scenery i.e. farmland to semi-high country to wild, open wilderness)

The opotiki to gisborne gorge (140km) or the gisborne to napier road. Both plenty of corners and buggerall traffic. Great drives and long enough that you feel buggered at the end.

I know that road like the back of my hand (grew up in Wairoa). The layout is nice, but the surface is pretty s***. There are much better roads :P

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
