Updated tyre discussion

Recommended Posts

Read threw some tyre threads and got a bunch of mixed answers which are all pretty old anyway. whats the latest experience on tyres?

After 2 decent tyres. thinking along the lines of t1r's, proxe 4's, re050, re001

What others should i add to the list of "decent" tyres & Whats you guys thought on some of the above? price versus grip/life

(note i haven't been reading threw the site like i use to so if there is already an updated tyre thread point me in that direction.)

I have had proxy4s on my car for about 50k km now. Used to have the T1S which is now replaced by T1R. I found the proxy4 is quieter than the T1S and good value for money as it's about 180 per corner and will last about 30k km of daily normal driving. The wet weather grip is not bad either. Im due for a new set soon and will probably try the T1R next.

The Toyo T1R has been around for ages and must be due for replacement soon ?

Overseas there are higher ranked models like the R1R and Proxes 1 which are unheard of in NZ.

plox;

What tyres have you got now ?

Get two more of the same ?

It's generally not advisable to mix and match.

got 4 poked tyres atm the mo.

Got 2 slightly worn kingstars k106's to go on the rear (need to convert to RWD soon to get dyno'd as have blown another center diff, so not wanting to spend $$ on good tyres which are going to get worn down quick)

Yes was also thinking some of those tyres above could be outdated by a newer model? seems t1r & proxe 4's are still available though

The R1R is a semi slick, it replaced the RA1 and is available in NZ.

In my limited experience Toyo make great value for money tyres that are particularly good in the wet although like alot of performance road tyres they suffer shoulder wear badly if you aren't careful with pressures.

just quietly... kingstars

Had them, good cheapish medium tyres. didn't mind them in the dry but nothing over current re050's in the wet and coming up to winter want some good tyres on the front

Referring to?

I think subiboy is referring to the chinese tyre debate...it's been done heaps before

Yep...

Eventually the thread will implode into a cesspit of BS on how good (read Sh!t) Kingstars/traingle/wing wang wong are etc...

Buy a decent set of tyres and vote for a polly that will kick in a new law banning this sh!t tyres...

Oh and before some mightier than tho posts: "but they help keep tyre prices in check" thats a load of bollocks as none of the reputed brands would consider them worthy as competition and simply wont lower their prices to match...

PS I really really hate substandard product/service or both

If any of this is in reference to hero's

They are not to be compared with triangles or anything like that, they are a new tyre to new zealand hence their low price and relative unknown status

They perform very well for street tyres even in the wet, and ask anyone who has owned them and they will tell you they are certainly not bad tyres

here ends the rant

Hero's are sold in Aus as well (they are budget brand federals tier 2 tyre brand)

We had some rep come into us and try and sell that rubbish (to a transport company no less), they are in the same league as Triangle/ling long liquorice specials.

They have their place (in a recycling pile that is - My opinion and that of our transport Mgr) but build quality is rubbish when you compare them with brands such Dunlop/Goodyear/Michelin/Firestone/etc...

If you can stomach the blatant copy and paste marketing jiz then click on below:

http://www.chapelcornertyres.com/Hero.html

The reality is as follows, if you own a performance car/high powered car then buy decent tyres, if you cant afford decent tyres think with a financial brain and ask yourself what it is going to cost you when you crash in the sh!ttiest weather you have ever driven in because they dont stop in the wet/snow...

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
