How to get Subaru Rumble

Guest

Recommended Posts

Sorry if its a n00b question, but will replacing the muffler give me the rumble?

I was under the impression you had to change the piping as well but a mate reckons you only need to change the muffler.

I'm not after anything stupidly loud just a nice sound, and I'm not worried about extra performance but I don't want to loose any.

And would this fit a gtb? if so is it worth it or is it better to go to a muffler shop and get a brand new one

I don't have any metal skills so would be looking for a simple bolt on.

what shape legacy u got?

thats a weld on tip so u will need to get it welded to the car

if u want just rumble then get any cannon tip (way cheaper ones on TM) and get it welded on

should be done and dusted in under 100 i suppose

some of those fijitsubo mufflers (like the one you linked to on TM) i have found to be dam near too quiet, IIRC fujitsubo have a road rated version and race version (someone will correct me) the road ones although big... are quiet.

I'd buy a big aftermarket canon

Cheers for the quick reply guys :D

Would it be cheaper to get the tip done rather than finding a muffler and bolting it on myself? I've never done anything with the exhaust

My next question if it is easier/cheaper to bolt one on myself what should I be looking for? what size is the stock piping?

I've got a wagon (BK..?). Are the exhaust different on the BD/BG/BK?

Our blitzen had the factory muffler on when we got it. Took it to magoo brake and muffler and got an aftermarket one fitted. Needed welded etc, took a little ovet an hour and gave the car a really nice rumble. I didn't want anything too loud or intrusive. At highway speeds you cant hear the rumble in the cabin but around town it sounds great. From memory cost about $200 ?

Bolting a proper muffler is not hard, if it's designed to fit up to the facto stuff. Size, brand, design, materials used all affect the rumble.

If you've got a BK, I'm assuming it's a USDM non-turbo...which makes me scratch my head. What are the details exactly? If it IS an N/A then don't even hope for the rumble without $$$ ;) If it's turbo, your rumble will be different to the WRX and single-turbo Legacy sound.

Best result IMO is to save up and get a proper exhaust on. The cheap no-name fart cannons just add fart without anything extra - whereas if you get a well-designed exhaust including midpipe and axleback, you will likely get better flow (and hence less restriction), resulting in a bit more balls up front as well as a mellower, satisfying rumble that doesn't get all nasal on the motorway and cause you to fail your WOF.

Or, if you just want to get the sound, take it to a muffler shop. I stand by the full exhaust system theory myself though, the only gripe I have is WHY DO TURBO BOLTS HAVE TO HATE ME SO MUCH, but that's a story for another knuckle-busting, blood-loss-filled day of misery and snapped studs.

Which is why the BK threw me. Also means he's got a TT, and we all know how fussy those are.

Thinking about it, Drunkenmonkey has/had a Kakimoto muffler that bolts straight on to the factory sh*t. Chrisjunkie was running it for a while, and despite being loud, it sounded bawse.

if you can find one, get hold of an sti 'genome' tip... Beautiful deep rumble, not too loud, destinct roar at w.o.t. But its still a fairly subtle quiet rumble.

Just put one on my foz last week... Loving it!!!

If you do have a n/a legacy, in order to get the rumble would involve a UEL aftermarket header set, rather pricy and you will loose some performance.

yea, took a guess at the model. sorry for the confusion :o

its a TT, I'm only really after the sound. Tbh once I've got the sound I'm done spending money on it, this is my first turbo car, and got it relatively cheap but will wait for a single turbs car before I start pouring some serious cash into it and I'd spend more money on purchasing the car to start with something better.

Now I just need to win lotto ;D

Lawl. Makes it all much clearer ;D

If it's all just sound you're after, go hard with an axleback IMO. If done properly they bolt straight onto the factory stuff and save you having to munt up what's on the car just to fit a melon launcher of unknown origin. Easy as p*ss too, a few hangars and two bolts to wrangle and she's in.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
