can I turn a gf8 Wrx (turbo) to sti eg ecu ,airflow meter,440cc injectors?

Iv got a 98 Wrx gf8 turbo I want to put 440cc injectors in it im runing a purple airflow meter can I just buy a orange sticker airflow meter and plug it in and run a sti computer frm sum year?

If your wrx is a v3/4 then yup its possible with

Turbo/afm/injectors/ecu

But remember the internals of a wrx are not as strong as the sti equivalent.

sounds like you have a NZ new WRX, in that case Its a V3, so it will be possible to upgrade all those bits from a V3/V4 STI/RA as I have recently done the same conversion for a customer of mine,

Need to confirm which version you have. Check on the passenger side strut tower..

short answer another words is YES

but there are risks : INTERNALS

make sure you see that part and think about it

not saying its a bad idea just beware, things like boost levels and compression ratio\'s come into factor here

also consider a fuel pump up grade at same time perhaps? (possible \'parrellel" fuel line upgrade also)

Funky : make sure you yell at me if I am spreading dolphin\'ism\'s [\'cos I am JUST a Legacy man who has never physically done any of this apart from swapp motors and fuel pumps)

If AFR check ok on the dyno/wideband internals will be sweet. Obviously not optimum like a tuned tuneable ecu.

I was thinking about doing this on my V3 GF8 before it got stolen haha

I found out that all you needed was Orange AFM, Yellow Injectors, Vf23 or similar and ECU from the corresponding STI. Plus maybe some minor wiring changes. You should have the EJ20G which has stood up to 260-275hp on previous models so it should be fine.

Here is a guide to Subaru ECUs so you can work out which ECU you need:

Of course this is all in theory and in practice its probably going to be a small mission..

Ive done it, and yes its as simple as unbolting/unplugging everything lol no wiring needed

Can any one tell me what ecu will plug in to mine and I herd v3 ecu is tuned to go harder? Sum 1 above posted up what version is to what ecu but im still not sure witch one I need

you can use a 1S from JDM V3 WRX ecu which is tuned and matched to a VF22,orange AFM, yellows. and rated @206kw factory. or you can use a 6S from a V3 STi which i believe has a more mild tune

I used the "75" ecu from a V4 STI RA which has a nice factory aggressive tune when I did my conversion

The sti had a air intake sensor do I need to buy a sensor and install into my intake and do I have to swap crank and cam sensor wires around?

Member ninja on here has/had a power fc for $500 ono iirc. Then you can have the best possible tune for it...

air intake sensor? before or after the AFM? more likely to be aftermarket, mine didnt have one so didnt need one.

you shouldnt have to remove/touch the plugs to the crank/cam senors as they should be the same on both engines

Some did have it funky or sl8r can tell you more about it.

The purple afm is screaming check the car more carefully.... i suspect it will hwve the oddball ej205..

If normal wrx i would have expected green..

What revision wrx as per my first request OP...?

Ah i see its an F... thats v5..

So 1s / 3s / 4s all wont work...

GF8s had the same set up as the foz from the time Purple AFM, td04 and grey injectors.

No such thing as 8s ECU i would think you have an 88 (or 8z if automatic) ECU as its OBD 2 compliant being an 98 model car, The STI version of this is the 75.

Could use 1s or 6s but may (or may not) require wiring changes and car would no longer be OBD 2 compliant.

Im not a v5/6 expert but pretty sure you will have a higher CR motor so will be problomatic to put in sti ecu in.

It has been talked about else where before. Im pretty sure gazzy2000 has more concrete info on this type of sti conversion
