SAFE TO RUN A V1 STi ECU IN A V2 WRX?

Recommended Posts

Hey there, thanks in advance for any information you may have in regards to putting a v1 sti ecu into a v2 wrx?

what I have researched on the net is that the engines were mechanically the same between the v1 wrx and v1 sti and that its the ecu that was the only difference in performance is this true?

I also read that the v1 wrx was open deck and the v1 sti was closed deck and the cams were slightly different (what does this mean as I am not very knowlegable with cars) and that the internals were not forged until v2 sti\'s.

all in all though my main question is... is it safe to put this v1 STi ecu in my v2 wrx or will I melt something or will something go bang? because I figure that going from 10.5psi to 14psi is quite a jump.

I realize these cars are getting old now and people are talking on subjects of later models but I do appreciate any help you guys can give.

STI Version 1/2 specs:

Looks like they both have 8.5:1CR and a 7000rpm limit, so should be a perfect swap. Just double check that they both use the same injectors? (Version 3 STI, CR changes to 8.0:1 and red line lifts to 7900rpm).

Also if the WRX and the STI use the same boost solenoid and turbo. They could have a different sized restrictor pill in the waste gate line, for the altered boost levels. So you might need the different pill to go with the ECU? You will soon know if you still only get 10.5 psi.

I don\'t think that information is correct as all version 2 sti I\'ve seen have had the 7900 limit and 380cc grey injectors.

Just put it in; Run 98 octane and keep an eye on boost levels, it may overboost, possibly in the higher gears.

If so, you can remedy this.

Been done before, time and time again. This is where you look at an in tank pump upgrade and split fuel rail.

Yeah i agree, my brother has done this mod and if you keep good fuel and plugs in it it will go well. Might jsut have to watch the boost and turn it down a little if you get det. Also a version 1 sti may not be much more aggressive than your current ecu if you have a sedan, a version 2 sti ecu may be a better option?

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
