Legacy model differences?

Hello

Have narrowed down the car we want. Now I notice there are so many variations of the same car ex Japan.

Could someone please recommend a website that explains these in simple terms or maybe somewhere here can reply with simple explanations? Would be great. Thanks.

2.5 S Style

2.5 I Eyesight

2.5 L package

2.5 XT Eyesight

2.5 I

2.5 ISAIS package

2.5 Eyesight B Sport

Neither of which are available in that model shape.

She is looking at BM/BR.

Just go and look at 3 or 4 of them and pick that one that ticks the most boxes for you, I.e. colour, mileage, condition, price. That is a much better way to buy a car than trying to pick the one specific sub model.

What I'm really after is is a 'sport' non turbo just sporty trim or is it a completely different suspension?

Is the 'eyesight' the most 'luxurious' variant?

How does B sport differ from 'sport'?

In the past I have owned a Honda Accord ex japan for which parts were hard to find as apparantly that particular model of that particular Accord was very uncommon, so I am trying to avoid a model where parts in NZ are again hard to find.

I dont seem to be able to find a Jap import 2010-ish that comes in a standard non turbo 3 litre engine.

Am I wrong to assume that a 2.5 GT version with turbo is just another part that can go wrong and be expensive to rectify? I would assume these cars as jap imports will have been hooned around in over there?

And I am wondering why a 5 speed gearbox is still used on a 2010 GT but a CVT on the non turbos. Doesnt this suggest that a older 5 speed trannies are considered more 'durable'? Or do the new 2014 GTs have CVT now too?

Do all 2.5 L non turbo models come with cam belts rather than cam chains or which 2.5 L models are chain driven?

Its very confusing... thats why we considered an Atenza Sports wagon.... but hubby hates front wheel drive cars...

You shouldn't have this issue with the Legacy, again check some out and pick one with the most appropriate/attractive features.

They don't exist. The 3.0 came in the previous model. This generation is a 3.6.

Yes/No/Maybe you just can't tell. The turbo version in theory has more that could go wrong, but that doesn't necessarily mean it will be less reliable, it may be more expensive to fix. You just can't tell how the prior owner has treated the car. The upshot of the turbo is it's much much more powerful and more attractive for resale.

Yes, the 5 speed is used as it is stronger, while the non turbo benefits from the efficiency of the CVT.

Only the 3.0, 3.6 engines are chain driven. 2.5 & turbos are belt.

Can you stretch to the 3.6?

The Atenza also comes in 4wd, but I wouldn't bother unless it see's the snow.

Eyesight refers to the fancy safety system in certain models that uses cameras to monitor the road & traffic, will warn the driver and will also intervene to prevent an accident if the driver doesn't react or react fast enough. Visit the subaru website for more detail. The device is located top centre of the windscreen, in front of the rear-view mirror.

Thanks.

I think I prefer the Legacy to the Outback as the Outback seems too high up...A

Another thing I noticed... some of the non turbo 2.5 L have one exhaust and some have 2... whats the difference? Thanks

Purely speculating here but alot of car manufacturers do this for appearance. In the 4th gens the 2.0i had a single but 2.0r had twin, bit of a performance difference between the two but not enough to justify needing it, purely a sporty dress up addition to bring the appearance closer to that of the top of the line cars.

I have managed to disable the Eyesight as it was making it difficult when getting out of a carpark - when parallel parked!! Very annoying. Also it came on when I was parking in a carpark with a bush in front. Slammed the brakes on as it thought I was going to hit a car. Was only going 3-4kms!!

Wow old thread. I know a guy with a new Ford Focus RS which has similar tech... he was driving down the street and came up to a car that was parked, but not very well... and the RS slammed the brakes on so hard the belts caused bruising.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
