Cheers mate. I'm guessing it helps if you leave a window open and someone reaches in it triggers the alarm or something along those lines?

So do avs alarms have glass break sensors? Had always thought that thing on the dash was a mic that pics up the tone of glass breaking. Never really looked into it at all though

Microwave and glass break sensors are 2 different things.

Glassbreak sensors detect the frequency of the sound of glass breaking. They're an almost complete waste of time on a Subaru because anyone who isn't a complete meth-fiend can get into one without breaking the window.

Most of the time with AVS installs they're glass break sensors because they're an easy up-sell for the installer when people don't fully think through the whole "my car doesn't have window frames" bit.

An ultrasonic sensor picks up air movement in the cabin. Installed correctly (by the way that's a kinda dumb spot for either a glass-break or microwave/ultrasonic sensor) they should go off as soon as someone starts messing around with the windows on your car. Also good for vans. Very good option for any Subaru you want to somewhat secure.

To test the difference, arm the alarm then tap fairly hard on the glass with your keys right by the sensor. If it's glass-break it'll probably go off, ultrasonic/microwaves shouldn't.

I'll have a go after uni. I armed it last night then reached in the cabin and the alarm didn't go off at all so my best bet is that it's the glass break sensor.
