Legacy bp5 Gt mod advice

Recommended Posts

hi guys,

checked out out a legacy bp5 (2.0, gt) today and obviously very keen to pick one up! Hopefully, The one I viewed too as its off for inspection this week with some alignment and of course new rubber. Fingers crossed anyway!

So I just wanted some info if any one has much experience with basic / subtle modifications that help the car wth daily or aid in longevity.

info Surrounding the following a below:

remap "tuning" that could build on mpg/performance would be sweet but I'm a bit tentative here.

Also, my main concern is that I've read about parts of the cat and filters from the banjo bolts being sucked into the turbo. not sure if its this model or is it the previous 2002 back so quote me if wrong!

Which would lead me to downppipe mods right?

Though, not wanting a noisy car though but I'm not sure how much difference this will cause though, Or if any?

I'm not requiring any suspension as I don't feel the need and it has mags already. So, it's pretty smart as is in my opinion. any advice and experience of others with a bp5 leggy or anyone's knowledge with these would be awesome!

If there are any sites where you can grab stuff from I know and really appreciate this site especially the wanted section here of course - but I'm a UK migrant so only been here a few weeks so all information is greatly appreciated!

just a general put the feelers out there for any advice I can get really!

note it's a auto "not my choice" haha but let's say the test drive was exciting had the clutch leg twitching!!!

Anyway, thanks in advance guys

The only way you'd get a piece of cat convertor in the turbo is if it came from the uppipe - rather than your downpipe.

The banjo filter you're talking about is the turbo oil feed? I'm not sure about that, but you'll want to remove the filters from the banjo bolts for the AVCS oil feeds to the heads and throw them away - a very simple diy.

I can't imagine a downpipe alone making it too much noisier, if at all, with the rest of the exhaust left stock . It may change the note. It doesn't make old Imprezas noisy fwiw. I think someone on here has had the Subtech(?) downpipe on with a stock exhaust - might be worth trawling the old threads.

Hey man

Ive got one of these and have done the subtech downpipe and then a midpipe resonator due to the raspy note the downpipe creates, which I didn't particularly like.

After doing this I went with Cryotune Performance for a Stage 2 Etune which has made a night and day difference from factory and, quite honestly, will be all you will need for a daily driven car.

They are an awesome wagon, you won't be disappointed if you take the leap.

Hope this helps.

  • 2 weeks later...

Got one here, running PBMS Tune and Subtech Front Pipe + Simota Panel Filter (2004 GT Spec B - Tiptronic) The Subtech front is raspy and sound horrible. Replacing the centre pipe with a 300mm long Adrenalin R Resonator ($130) made a world of difference (nearly stock sound).

As for the tune at PBMS in Pukekohe (Gary Capper) OMG, the car has bucket loads of power to dip into all the way upto (and beyond) overtaking speeds...181kw at all 4.

Fuel economy was improved with best achieved so far of 7.9L per 100 km (confirmed with actual fill, not computer, but the computer is quite accurate too).

For under $2000 on top of purchase price it makes the BP5 a bargain car when you compare it to other similary powered (and nice looking) speced sedans out there.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
