Recommended Posts

Hi Guys

I'm going to be getting my mechanic to convert my car from auto to manual but out of interest id like to know what parts are required to have it done? I know its expensive...

Subaru Legacy | BP5 | EJ20 Turbo | 2007 | Face-lifted

Also the transmission tunnel is different so you'd also need custom gearbox supports made up. It really is a massive pain in the ass, many have considered it but have yet to come across anyone who has actually gone ahead with it.

Rear dif

Gear box

Clutch stuff

Body loom

Honestly, BP/BL legacies, manual conversion just isnt a thing.

Sell it and buy manual

Converting is about as smart as putting a V8 into a V6 commodore

You spend twice what it's worth, it's still worth the exact same afterwards, and it's never *quite* as good as a proper one anyway

Unsure if sarcasim... Lol

Nah in all seriousness, its a f**king huge job. Not worth. Some guys in the states have attempted, and even with swapping the body loom they still get random ecu and tcu cel's... More hassle than worth, sell and buy manual

Some people never research before buying a car it seems. I have done the same before twice.

My first Legacy was NA and I quickly realised that I was envious of anyone with a turbo!

My first STi was not an R/RA... and I was envious of anyone with DCCD and an R180 rear diff.

totally no sarcasm man, I meant it, so no high-5 back?

people come into subaru ownership & think they are all like Nissan's / Holdens where you can just change parts around

"they are like lego mayte"

get a bit disappointed when us 'nerds' remind people about certs & tunes as soon as you start doing even the basic things

Well in the 90s there was a lot of interchangeability... seats, suspension, drivetrain, engines, electrics... between GC Imprezas, BG Legacys... Foresters probably too though I hate them so don't know or care.

Cheers Joker *high 5's* text based forum can be a little hard to pick the "tone of voice" as it were.

Basically with the introduction of can-bus, driveline swaps have been made redundant. Can still swap and change a lot of stuff tho!!

Mind you, nothing comes close to the pre v7 / rev d interchangability of stuff, particularly v3/4 era.

Post v7 / rev d its all about the ecu, and what can be achieved with some research and tinkering... Retune on a BP/bl for example, with one of the facelift leggy turbos, will have an end result that'll upset your average wrx owner....

Hm, maybe its something to reconsider. Sounds like a lot more of a mission than the older cars. Non related note - does anyone know why the response times on the 5AT paddles are so slow?

An ECU/TCU remap along with the pak file upgrade gets the response time right down.

Can you up line pressures and stuff with remaps on these?

I did it on my airtrek and it made it the first auto I was really happy with

That was before I drove anything dual clutch mind you, pops and bangs on upshift FTW

My intentions were not to MT the car as i moved from a 6 speed H6 BP5 for the GT, and the cost of the only 6 speed box with a GT wagon was 20k at the time which at that stage was just not affordable and i needed something asap.

Over time I just got sick of the slow shift times and thought about going manual but it sounds like getting the PAK upgrade with a few other tweaks should make the shifting a little less sloppy as what I originally hoped for.

Ill head over to Hodge motors and see if they can do the PAK upgrade, local specialists so it should be fine.

The paddles should have same response as moving the shifter in manual mode. If not maybe the switches are dying in the paddles. Autos are generally not that responsive, I find manual mode and sport# is pretty good but there is still v.minor lag.

Autos *can* be more responsive than a human hand can be, try driving one of the DSG euros for an example

To be fair on most cars the flappy paddle tiptronic stuff is a waste of time, even if it reacts fast it still drives better left to make its' own decisions

If you're having to click the thing through gears yourself it sort of defeats the purpose of buying an auto in the first place doesnt it

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
