Tuning Options for Wellington

loner

Recommended Posts

Chris Wall ex DTech and STM has come back to Wellington and started a new company. https://www.facebook.com/prestigetuningnz/

And of course there is macbilt where my car currently is... they haven't tuned it yet because it still has some significant problems,

but I have high hopes for them fixing it and then doing a great tune. https://www.facebook.com/macbilt.

I thought that was you're car down there haha.

Macbilt just tuned my old RA, has a g4 wire in now. Havnt seen dyno sheets but managed to pull 211kw and apparently it's very impressive.

I forget who their tuner is (might still be Josh?) But can only do Link ecu last I checked, could be wrong

I want the tune checked on the ra-r so at some stage I'll go see Chris, possibly the only person for reflashing in Welly now

Silver R with a white bonnet?

All ECUs are pretty much the same to be honest... you have a fuel table, a timing table, boost table and then all the compensation tables and settings etc etc.

If my car was mechanically okay I would have just gone to Chris as well.

Reflashing doesnt happen in real time  tuning an ecu like link does thats the pretty big difference. Also most tuners dont have any idea on reflashing stock ecus.

I understand it's having the requisite software and interfacing components that is important, especially when it comes to Factory ECU reflashes.

Also I believe Chris' company is working alongside a new outfit called Llama Engineering (same building?) which may or may not be a former STM mechanic who is very, very good with Subarus. Might be a while to get in there though, when I made some enquiries they said they had a bit of a waiting list.

Is that the Shred folk?

Again, only my understanding, but I believe that a bunch of old Shred staff are now working at STM, including Aaron Lawson doing their tunes. Read into that whatever you want.

Llama Engineering (former STM mechanic), and I think Prestige Tuning, are operating out of what was once Shred's building.

Ok, just went and saw them. Talked to Rob about a tiny bit of fabrication I need and he was pretty helpful. They are currently booked solid for the next twelve weeks. They also have some pretty serious looking kit in there.

There might be someone who used to work at STM there in the workshop, but the two guys I met certainly didn't seem like they would have worked there.

yes... apparently the cam timing has been off since I bought the car. macbilt are installing some adjustable cams gears now.

looks like maybe the timing being off was causing one side of the engine to run rich and the other lean... hence the symptoms of over fuelling without the

AFRs looking overly rich. might have det damage and glazed bores already. fingers crossed that everything will be okay once the timing is fixed.

Interesting, wonder if it's something to do with how it's been machined? Aggressive decking/head skimming would result in the timing being wonky I believe.

As for the AFR, yup, downfall of running a single wideband a long way from the exhaust ports, you will see net AFR only so if you have 2 cylinders rich and 2 lean you might get a nice overall reading... only solution is to run a wideband or EGT sensor in each exhaust runner which is complicated and expensive.

Al said a few years back there were some cheapish cams around that had the locator dowels in the wrong place and suspects these are some of them.

The cam wheel on the left exhaust had been modified to allow adjustment, but it wasn't clear if more or less timing should have been applied when

that cam wheel was fitted as the modification allowed for adjustment in both directions. I also don't know if it allowed for enough correction to be applied.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
