Fuel economy in your Subaru

Recommended Posts

Just thought I'd start a fuel economy topic as bit of banter about it in my thread. Please do mention your tank size so we can compare evenly, as someone has mentioned some use 50L tanks (like mine) where as most others use 60L.

Car : WRX STI 2001 (Bugeye)

Tuned (or stock?), any fuel system mods? : tuned, decapped pink sti injectors (not sure of flow) and bosche 044 fuel pump, split fuel rails too if that makes any difference.

Fuel : BP98

Fuel economy : 340 km on 50L tank mix of hard and casual driving, 400km total nana driving.

Fuelly stats if known :  with 2000km tracked on fuelly.com, my average is 7.3km per Litre, so 365km from a 50Litre tank of 98

Car: 2001 STI

Tuned: Heaps. Holset Turbo and a Link, 1600cc injectors

Fuel: BP98

Fuel Economy: I can sneak 500kms out of it. Purely open road driving, only giving it jandle for overtaking really.

Flat out it will drink a little over 3L/minute.

Other car: 2005 Legacy 3.0R

Tuned: Nope

Fuel: BP98

Economy: I can get it to nudge over 12km/L on the open road, so I could probably get about 700km from a completely full tank (60L?)

Around town it's not flash.

Mine was originally set up with closed loop; after the latest revision with the big honking turbo we ditched the O2 sensor and just went open loop all the time and I actually get better fuel economy so I don't think you're missing out on much.

Who originally tuned the closed loop fuelling? You had Prestige tune it again recently didn't you?

It's probably more about the AFR targets/dither voltage, other wise it's just turning it on and setting gain/limits.

I've done closed loop quite a bit. But as boon said shouldn't make huge difference if open loop tuned correctly. My % in closed loop is always within 2% which is pretty good. Some tuners just guess the low load and use closed loop to get ok fuel economy and have massive corrections

awesome, this threads been really helpful to determine if i have a problem or not! so mines 12.5 L / 100km nana driving and 14.7L/100km driving hard, with an average of 13.7L / 100km mix driving which sounds about on par with other people that have similar cars.

Car: 06 BP9 Outback 3.0R S I Drive (facelift) JDM

Tuned: Stock

Fuel: 95  as recommended.

Tank 64 litres

Tyres; stock size  30 fr  28r  psi as recommended.

Fuel economy:  Worst: 7.5-8km / litre urban-short running)   13L/100km

Mixed running 35% short/ 65% open road 9,5km / litre.   10 L/100km

Open road  2-4hrs+  trip  11-13km / litre.  8 - 9 L/100km        (figures taken from trip computer and also set trip metre at each fill up to check)

Best  7.8 L/100km  Dunedin to Invercargill once - ideal conditions no traffic good weather Spring   @ 110kph

Reasons for good economy 3.0R tall overall gearing ie 3.27 diffs  100kph @ 2000rpm.   SI drive better for fuel economy - torque converter locks up sooner and engine power reduced in "Intelligent"  (economy) mode. (10% better than  non SI Drive 5EATs)

Its interesting watching the actual fuel consumption on trip computer  once open road and 80kph + fuel consumption improves a lot.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
