Overheating at idle

Morning guys I have a 1996 Legacy GTB in manual i got for a project car, got it running nicely now I took it for a drive the other day and when I got back home I checked the overflow tank and it had filled it up but the engine hadn't overheated at all, but after sitting on the drive idling for a few mins the temp started to rise not into the red or anything, so I took it out again for a short drive and the temp comes back to normal

Would this indicate a sticky thermostat? the car had been sitting for months before I purchased it

Rebleed to eliminate air locks..

I had some over heating issues with my BH wagon.

It could be head gaskets starting to go, but seems strange its only when idling.

I had and issue where I was getting air into my system from a leak from my overflow hose to radiator connection. It would suck soem air in occasionally and cause an airlock. Rebleeding would usually fix it.

Okay so I replaced the thermostat and it has made no difference, i'v noticed it wont ever overheat when driving its only when you stop at idle for around 5min or more it starts to rise - In now thinking a blocked radiator?

After eliminating all the rest,  how old it your water pump? Could have buggered impeller blades and can only push water once your above idle.

yes thats a good point I will check that too

Okay so took the Radiator in to be flushed out  and it was 20% blocked, will be putting back in tonight, would 20% blockage cause it to warm up a bit at idle? it never gets real hot when it does warm above normal, and as I said it would come back to normal once driving

You'll find out once the radiator goes back in?

If you leave it idling for ages, and it starts to cook, if you just give it 2-3k rpms in neutral for a little while does the temp drop back down again

Are you sure the fans are blowing the right way

Okay so radiator went back in and I took it for a good drive and it seemed ok didn't overheat and the overflow bottle only filled to halfway this time, went in and had tea then took it for another spin, this time it overflowed the bottle and same old problem the temp came up again! - I tried what you said with the 2-3k rpm for a bit and the temp did come back to normal - and yes the fans are definitely blowing the right way

my only idea now is the head gasket is only just starting to leak every now and then especially when I drive it  a bit harder

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
