Turbo Timer With Alarm

Recommended Posts

Planning to get a turbo timer (some people think its a waste of time but i like the idea of cooling everything down) but i also have a cobra alarm system and wondering if its possible to have the turbo timer and still have the alarm to work properly as the engine will be running after I alarm and immobilize the car (if I was to have both)

yeah just find the model of your cobra alarm and talk to your local alarm installer, they should be able to set up the timer and alarm together long as the alarm model was compatible with turbo timer

Sweet. What do you think of turbo timers?

seems like waste of time/money to me. i do stay in my car with engine idling for 1-2mins when i park anywhere, never been in such a rush that i can't allow for that. just wouldn't pay extra to put in the feature, and would also be worried about it in terms of what happens if i crash and there's some kind of fire hazard, normally would turn off ignition to reduce risk but turbo timer would keep things running . maybe thats OTT paranoid which i've been known to be but yeah. think there's already thread about idling car before switching it off and was varied opinions, someone said subaru turbos aren't oil only so probably redundant? cant remember.

Ive never had one, my mates got one and its annoying as F*** as his car is loud and sits in my driveway for 2minutes bopping

I usually just got by this rule - if youve just thrashed it - it given it a good boost, let it run on for a bit when you get home like 1minute

If youve given it a boost and then driven for 5minutes nicely without boosting, just give it 15seconds ish when you get home

Not saying my way is the best way or even the right way - i just never boost around my house so i dont ever piss my neighbors off, so when i get home ive already been letting the engine chillout during the last 5-10mins of driving

They heat up sitting there idling

It makes sense if you're driving a 500hp kenworth which lives on boost whenever it's moving and only cools down from that sort of load at idle - almost any petrol car sees no real benefit from a turbo timer other than letting you walk away from it hearing it from the outside

They're a gimmick

Exactly. They are absolutely pointless and are of no benefit whatsoever if you are sensible. As @THUNDA suggests, drive off boost for the last short part of your journey before switching off. I've owned turbo cars for many, many years and never had a turbo timer.

The way Subaru plumbs the water lines to the turbo causes a siphon effect so it keeps drawing water through the turbo after you've turned the car off. If you turn off your car and put your ear down by the turbo you can hear it gurgling away - some people even think it's like a turbo cooler system running, nah, just physics.

Which means more than ever that turbo timers are a waste of time+money on most Subarus. Plus if you have a loud exhaust it's obnoxious as F*** to leave it burbling away in your drive.

I currently have an oil-cooled turbo and my alarm is set up to run the car for a while but has a manual kill from the remote; I literally switch it off as soon as I'm out of the car, I figure 15 seconds or so is enough and I don't hate my neighbours.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
