Thinking About Selling my Car..

Recommended Posts

Looks like the engine and drive train is untouched. I was talking to another guy as I wanted to buy the latest shape STI's and he told me to just buy his GRB as the engine is pretty much all the same except the exterior changing. Are you going for 2.0 or 2.5L?

Really!? 8 Years apart and no changes.

Maybe going for the JDM 2.0L. Wonder the engine will be as strong as my version 8 sti?

Things i've noticed compared to USDM

No visible cruise control or steering wheel buttons (wonder if i can get one installed)

Apparently no proper sound system or GPS etc

No speakers adjacent to mirror.

Still JDM ftw right?

so chassis on the GVB (2011) is similar to GD? Only improvements are to the VAB?

GR Series onwards have multi-link rear suspension which is better than the GD's trailing arm set up. Not night and day in my experience but haven't driven a GRB very hard, does mean the boot's interior's a bit better shape though...

Personally I would choose the JDM 2.0L option. I have heard of cases where most of the ringland issues are struck on the 2.5L especially in USA as most of their Subarus are 2.5L which most horror stories come from when you search on the net not saying it does not happen to the JDM 2.0L either. That was enough to scare me for a year or two. I've heard that the V11 Engines aren't as strong as the V7 engines. I'm not entirely sure if V7 and V8 has the same drive train if it does then V7/V8 will be the strongest out of all I believe.

I haven't personally seen cruise control on a GVB but I have seen steering wheel buttons for the stereo which controls the factory Stereo system. I've seen people change the factory system and was still able to use the factory wheel buttons (Forgot how they accomplished this). Honestly it's luck of the draw on this always a give and take with some cars.

Definitely no GPS for sure unless an aftermarket stereo has been fitted. Well the factory sound system is good enough for my needs but it's no top of the line bose speakers. I did plan on upgrading my speakers but just never got around to it. Two door card speakers front and rear.

GRB and GVB have similar interior design and my GRB has tweeters which are the speakers adjacent to mirrors. I don't really see that much of an impact having those factory tweeters tbh

IMO; JDM is still my 1st option.

pretty sure the v7 (and possibly early v8s) were the last of the lot to get the ej207 with the forged internals (or what some call 'semi forged')?

not sure its worth comparing failure rates in US to here, they have pretty S*** fuel in most places (like 91/93)  and im gonna generalize here but they seem to have a huge number of people claiming to be tuners with no mechanical background and seems to be commonplace to just download & flash any random rom without tailoring to the specific car with specific set of mods.

Over on Nasioc there are many threads about guys putting in an accessport in and refreshing with off the shelf tunes. It can be refreshed with different stages depending on mods. But it seems that its not the great if you don't have the right parts for the tune or use really crappy gas. Many people have been known to throw a stage whatever reflash and break the car then take out the accessport, take off the aftermarket partsT and then take back to dealer for a new engine. They also run a lower octane (I think Theither highest is about our 95) and also there are different qualities of fuel, some places are known for the bad fuel they sell.

Also not sure if it was a design or manufacturering issue but the US cars are made in the US not Japan.

American fuel is not the same as ours. There 93 is our 98 iirc or close enough.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating#Research_Octane_Number_.28RON.29

Quote

In most countries, including Australia, New Zealand and all of those in Europe, the "headline" octane rating shown on the pump is the RON, but in Canada, the United States, Brazil, and some other countries, the headline number is the average of the RON and the MON, called the Anti-Knock Index (AKI), and often written on pumps as (R+M)/2. It may also sometimes be called the Posted Octane Number (PON).

Quote

Because of the 8 to 12 octane number difference between RON and MON noted above, the AKI shown in Canada and the United States is 4 to 6 octane numbers lower than elsewhere in the world for the same fuel. This difference between RON and MON is known as the fuel's Sensitivity,[4] and is not typically published for those countries that use the Anti-Knock Index labelling system.

TLDR: US displayed octane rating is 4-6 lower than what what we see on our pumps.

Thanks guys, this has been really helpful!

So the bottom line is i may be able to get my hands on a 2011 sedan GVB STI for maybe 30k ish (im hoping under if a miracle happens).

Pretty confident i can sell my car for a good price, dealer offered me 21k, so hopefully should be able to get 23k ish if i sell it myself.

Is it worth it? Considering the mods and performance i have out of my 2003 STI? The GVB will be pretty much stock apart from exhaust i think.

Also a side question, does anyone know what turbo is in the JDM 2011 GVB?

look at this thread, the description, the pics, the dyno chart... have spare underwear ready :P he's asking for 35k, that is indeed more than the 30k you are looking to spend, but on the plus side you won't need to modify it or have it retuned, everything is done already so you just drive it and have fun. who knows he may even be flexible on pricing.

Jeeeeeeeezus a 2003 is still worth that money? They were in that ballpark when I bought my V7 7 years or so ago...

If I were you I would sell your massively over-valued car ASAP before the market works out that they're not worth that much.

V9 seem to still command 20-25k unless theyre after a quick flick or high km them 18-20k. V8 seem similar.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
