5th gear input shaft nut loose..?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. So ive got a problem with the wrx.  All the symptoms point to having a loose main shaft nut on 5th gear.. pops out of 5th gear on decel. Or off throttle.. feels like shifter is being pushed out of gear on acceleration but stays in gear until i decelerate then pops into nuetral.. and doesnt like to go into reverse. And stil shifts and drives fine in every other gear.. its a 96 wrx 5 speed. Just wondering where to buy a replacement nut and if anyone has any tips on how to do it?

Yea iv just read that about 4 times now lol. Was just wondering wether part numbers for the nut and gasket, between the my96 wrx and the bh5a that the write up covers are the same as we dont have a local subaru dealer n usual parts places dont even seem to know what im talking about let alone have the ability to find one.

Was also wondering if there was any other tips people myt want to add that could possibly make job faster/easier..

To be honest I've heard of this happening but never seen one or worked on one. The parts will likely be different to gtb. I'd be tempted to reuse the nut but pein it over properly, and worst comes to worst, ThreeBond in place of gaskets.

Thanks man. Yea i think ill just reuse it.. loctite it and hammer lock it properly..

Also.. any one know wether or not its safe to reuse the gasket when the box goes back together? Was hoping id get away with just using the old gasket and some of the gasket maker/ sealant ive already got.

Ive always cleaned the gasket off both surfaces and used silicon. Just use a minimal amount and smear it over the faces so you dont end up with overflow inside the box.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
