Buying advice Impreza WRX STI 2007-2010

I'm looking into buying a subie and I'm really keen on a manual hatchback Impreza wrx sti but I'm afraid of having to deal with reliability problems. Could someone tell me a little about what I could/should expect with maintenance and general running costs.

Avoid the revision a and b grb chassis.

 

Questionable quality piston rings leading to premature engine failure is a big trend in em, as is oil burn. 

 

First facelift (when they introduced the sedan sti, circa 2010) is where i'd be looking tbh

A-line, thats the 2.5 jdm auto aye?

 

Iirc all the early gr models, jdm and export market, are affected by unreasonable oil burn. I've not heard much about the 2.5 autos popping motors, but the export stuff is facing a class action out of the states

 yeah they are the 2.5 jdm auto ones... i wonder if i should just save and buy a 2010 model instead of the 2007/08/09 ones, even though some of them look so good and priced well

Sorry old thread drag, but iam too looking at getting a 2007 GRB STI with 100,000kms on the clock, Kiwi Fozze when you say its a big trend beacuse of the piston rings - is this when modded or even just standard? tbh I havent heard of the JDM 2.0l doing this?

Even from standard, and the 2.0 jdm ones are notorious for it.

 

Buy as new as you can afford, the 2007 ones are the first revision with all of the issues
