This is what I found when swapping from the TD05 16g to the VF8 . The VF housing was slightly shorter, not enough to be a major issue just a pain as I had to massage some of the exhaust hangers to give me some wiggle room with it.

Ah right, knowing my luck that will probably be the case. Will have a better idea when it arrives, fingers crossed. 

 

I thought the boost controller switched between a high and a low boost map, I just assumed this changed on the Link as well? Will make sure I ask him.

 

Any ideas on the Intercooler, do you need to replace the crash bar? Anything else I should look at getting?

Grab an ssi unequal length manifold and up pipe from nzkw or red line. They work bloody well.

While they're good for bigger applications, this I think it'd hurt performance more than it'd help.

As for Intercooler, its up to you. a nice dense core but that coolers super well, but trades off with lower flow. intercoolers nz or something did a pretty good one for Furzes car. I'd do my own piping if I were you btw.

Perfect for this @Dairusire its pretty much a bolt on gt3071. I posted back to back results in engine thread iirc with a gt3076. Well worth doing. 

 

Proven to generate a better curve on a vf34 also.

depends on the dyno, I know my old td05 18g hit 240kw atw on an old ver 3 sti engine. 

 

If you want a seriously mental turbo with good power and ridiculous*(lol) spool get a bortgwarner EFR. Think they come with wastegate/boost control all in one as well so they are actually pretty good value for money.

This. Just put a efr6758 on the rally car. We wanted a turbo that was more responsive than the vf30, spooled earlier and had more top end. Ended up spooling 250rpm earlier, making 245wkw restricted and 327wkw unrestricted on 20psi and e85. Amazing turbo.

I've already bought the MD321 turbo, hopefully it performs okay. Will look to grab an SSI manifold as well.

 

Is there anywhere you can buy Process West FMIC's in NZ? Have been looking on AU sites but haven't been able to find one that ships to NZ yet, and not sure what customs will sting me.

I was having a play with the new turbo last night and it appears to be all good, no play in the shaft and it doesn't appear to have had much use (blades still have paint). Only thing is if I give it a spin it's only spinning around a few times before stopping. Is this normal, i'd expect it to spin for a while longer given it's ball bearing?

It might just not have any oil in it? Neither my 24 nor my 36 spun like fidget spinners when out of the car. They noticeably spin more than journal bearing turbos however.

Just an fyi. There should be SOME side to side play. No back and forth. Also it sounds about right for how long it should spin for with no oil in it.

SSI equal lengths have been on my car for 4 years+ with no problems

Is this the one I want to get and does anyone know if it tracks the same path as the factory headers? Sweet have ordered them. Looking at the photo's on the Tomei site it looks like it's a very similar line and NZKW said I can return as long as they're not scratched. Fingers crossed.

 

Was think i should run the breatherless twin catch can setup, so I don't fill the new inter cooler full of oil. Not sure if this is the right approach and there seems to be a lot of different opinions - venturi system, AOS ($$) and breather catch can setup.

 

What are people using and what experience have they had, how often do you need to empty the catch cans on average?

So what turbos are normally the go to for upgrading ? curious asif there is much of a difference between here and home, know the popular ones back home are the K04 and T3/T4 hybrids. Looking to learn
