Cleaning Rims

Recommended Posts

Im looking to try clean up the inside of my rims from the RS RA and wanted to know the best way to get rid of all the crud and brake dust thats built up over the years on the inside of the rim.

I have tried brake clean and scrubbing and heavy duty degreaser and scrubbing, which removes some but still leaves more than I want.

I was thinking about using a wire wheel on the inside faces to clean the up but unsure if this is wize.

Any help would be good.

Will post a pic up of the condition of them when I get home

I tried to do the same with my v7 wheels. I used dragons breath. The face of the wheel came up mean but the back and inside of the rim almost had no change. I thought there would be paint under there but looks like they didn't paint the inside of the wheel so the finish is rather rough, could just be worn out though

I'm also interested if anyone has a good solution for this. I went through a similar process as both of you trying to clean a set of gold speedlines for my gc8. I have the wheels off the car and have hit them with wheel cleaner and heaps of scrubbing plus tried a whole can of crc degreaser. Degreaser and a stiff bristled brush works really well to remove the tar and old stickies from wheel weights but I for the life of me cannot remove the discolouration from the years of brake dust.

I think a wire wheel would just remove the paint if they are painted but if it is bare alloy it may work. I would assume there is some sort of clear coating on the alloy wheels also so it may not work.

The insides are always a pain to get clean especially if its not painted or anything, the brake dust and crap just sticks and its also hard to access when its on the car. When you get them clean you wanna keep em clean even if u take em off once a month and get right inside.

As far as cleaning it, Im not too sure how to get rid of all the crap on the inside other than wheel cleaners and things. Would also like to see if there is a way to get it off tho.

Edit: If its not painted or anything, whats stopping you sanding it all back and giving it a coat of paint and clear coat.

Motomuck has released a bottlenof dragons breath equivalent, but significantly cheaper. Works really well. Get in to it with a stiff bristled brush, you may have to go over the rims a few times to loosen everything up

Where do you get it from?

BNT tend to stock Motomuck, and if your local doesn't have it they can definitely get it.

I don't have a "local" only place in town that sells automotive stuff is mitre 10 who obviously don't have much. I'll give bnt a call when I run out of what I have now, thanks.

I will give the washing powder, warm water and scourer tonight when I get home.

Im not to worried about damaging any clear coat on it as I will give a respray once done anyway.

My dad gave me a couple of bottles of heavy duty graffiti cleaner, so I tried a little bit on one of the rims with a steel wire brush, seemed to amke a good difference but not as clean as I was hoping

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
