01 sti abs light

Got the code pulled after cleaning the gummed up sensors didn't fix the problem. DTC 31- front right hold valve malfunction. 

 

anyone have experience with this? Does the solenoid need cleaned? Do I have to get a new abs pump? Dealership seems to think this is a 4700 dollar job which is insane.

Inclined to say it will be ABS pump time; get one from a wrecker, should be in the $200 ballpark.

It's a slightly fiddly job and you'll have to bleed all the lines afterwards, but for $4700, what are they planning to do, remove the engine to get at the pump?

Good question, I ended up getting a pump from subaroo spares here in Hamilton for 100 bucks. Between installing, bleeding the brakes, etc it took me about 3.5 hours including a complete brake fluid flush. Pulled it out of the garage and let it idle a few minutes and the light stayed on. Took it for a drive and it shut off before I hit the end of the block. Have checked it a few times since and it has stayed off so hopefully that solved the problem. Ended up costing me 100 for the pump and 32 something for 1,000ml of dot 4 and a brake bleeder tool that was essentially some hose and a bottle with a magnet so I could put it on the fender above the bleeder.
