Options to replace BP Legacy Smart key?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, got a 2007 JDM BP5 with only one key and wanting another one. However, I don't want to pay Subaru $920!  I can't claim on insurance unfortunately as I never had a 2nd one to begin with (and my policy only covers stolen keys anyway). I was wondering if it was possible to buy a couple of transponder remotes and "clone" the existing transponder and just get keys cut to go along with them. Then I could just leave the original remote with the immobiliser RFID in the car and lock\unlock with the remotes (and have the key as a backup if battery goes flat)

I'm guessing disabling the immobiliser altogether is beyond impossible?

You can't remotely lock the car with a key inside. Any decent locksmith should be able to clone your existing one.

Can't be cloned as it has the immobiliser RFID chip in it which needs to be programmed to the car.

Technically a push button start system doesn't have an immobiliser, as without a key being inside the car, it's not going to start. There's no ignition barrel to force or switch to hotwire, so an immobiliser is redundant. I'll ask our local locksmith tomorrow, get their opinion on it.

Today I learn :)

An update on this in case anyone has the same issue in future. Bought a 2nd hand remote off @sobanoodle (thanks again bro) and got it programmed by Beveridge Locksmiths in Wellington. Since it was a 2nd hand remote, they had to erase the memory first to allow it to be programmed to my car. I also bought a new "blade" key off Ali Express to fit the remote case which they cut to match my original one.

A couple of things to note. You will need to contact Subaru to get the immobilizer security code. They just need a couple of things to prove you're the owner.

If you buy a 2nd hand remote, make sure the numbers on the circuit board match even if the remote case looks exactly the same.

How much did this cost from Beveridges? I'm in exactly the same boat as you, except '05 Legacy, I have a blank blade from Ebay with electronics from a crashed NZ car on top.

Also did you just talk to Armstrong to get the immobilizer code?

$170 to erase, programme and cut the key

Yes, I contacted Iain in the parts department to get the code. However, if yours isn't a push button start, you might just be able to programme it yourself (not sure with a 2nd hand key though. Might still need to be erased)

Curious about this part - did you have to go to a dealership or they can retrieve the code from their system based on your  rego --> chassis number?

You don't have to go to the dealership. He just contacts Subaru Japan with the details and they send back the code. There was no charge.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
