New car options - 07+ Legacy, or SH Forester

Also note the CVT was Subaru's first "auto" to be more fuel efficient than a manual. The torque converter locks up super early, like 10 to 15kph, and after that it's a full mechanical connection from the engine to the wheels. The CVTs are pretty reliable. In 7 years I've had one apart, and I put that down to driver abuse too, not faulty trans. Yes you get the odd one with torque converter staying locked up and stalling the engine when you come to a stop, but I've done just as many tc's on other models too.

Ok so looking at a few other options.. am also considering a couple of BR's but they are higher in km's.. so with all other things being equal.. what are people's opinions / considerations for these options:

'09 BP, 125k, cambelt and parts changed at 114km (so travelled 11,000km), SI-Drive, $9,000 privately

'09 BR, 178k, cambelt and parts changed at 110km (so travelled 68,000km), $8,000 + ORC from a dealer

Even if I spent another $1000 and got the cam belt and parts job all changed to new, I'd be getting a newer model for the same price, it's just done more km's on the body and all the other mechanicals.

Or other option is try and get the BP for cheaper for a car that's travelled less km's, less worn mechanicals and a better known service history.

Thoughts?

Same year? I'd be tempted to go with the BP if you can talk the seller down to $8k
There are so many around that parts are easily found etc.

But the BR is a more spacious car... hard call. You also get CGA backing with buying from a dealer.

Yeah same year, it would be early '09 vs late '09.

Both 2.5L NA?

Yep. Same colour so no difference there, the BR9 has an aftermarket stereo w/rear camera vs a $600 fascia for the BP, and the BR9 has 5 speed CVT gearbox, vs 4AT for the BP9

Is it worth getting a mech inspection on a dealer car? Whats the deal with the CGA, even if you don't get a mechanical warranty?

I'd probably lean towards the BR9 then, better fuel economy with the CVT and having a reversing camera is always nice.

The kms isn't too much of an issue. Can always have an AA inspection or something to be sure, that way you can hold AA/dealer liable for any unexpected major repairs.

Yeah was contemplating getting it mechanically inspected, seeing as it's in Auckland and I'm in Wellington so I can't just go and view it myself.

I'm in Auckland. Happy to have a quick look over it for you before you spend $$ on a full inspection.

S*** that's cheap! One of the first ones we looked at was similar ks, and they wanted $14500 for it. I offered $12000 and they turned me down. It's now on for $11500 and has some god awful wheels on it!

Yeah too much of a good price to turn down I reckon ;)

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
