Yes, it is.

Normally between 120-150k they let go. Bad piston rings, blowby carbon build up floats the bigends.

Like, 500km post oil change, the oil is almost diesel black.

Mine let go at 110 k

Hmm that's a pity - such a nice car!

Was yours the 2.0L or 2.5L? From what I've heard most of the rebuilt ones have been the 2.5L engines.

I'm currently at 114k's from memory on a bigger turbo & unopened engine. Cylinder leak down test came to a very good result. Also cylinder tested PSI came to between 1-3PSI difference across 4 cylinders.

That might be right. Always hearing the Americans talking about their ringland failures :P (they got 2.5's)

I would always go with the 2.0 just by what I hear about them, iirc they rev a lot higher and are stronger.

Yeah, that's exactly what I've heard as well being JDM the most strongest/reliable way. They do rev to 8K RPM and from knowledge V11's are semi-forged.

@boostin is there an official release on the ringland or blend failure?

When they were first released there was a recall to check for metallic fragments in the bottom of the sump from premature bearing failure, but to be honest I've not heard of piston or ring issues. We get 1 or 2 a year for turbo failure but that's about it.

When mine let go, there were 6 or 7 on the go at pbms, subtech had done 10 in the 2 months prior and had done another 3 by the time my clutch lunched itself, sublab had a few of em on the go and there was aparantly a massive shortage on head gaskets for them when mine died

I own a 2.5L 2011 STI Sedan. It blew a ringland with the previous owner at 85,000kms. Has had a rebuild now.

I've owned a V8 previously and can say that this V11 is an amazing car. I absolutely love the sound of the 2.5L, and the stock handling is pretty dam awesome too. Not to mention how dam nice they look.

From what i've read, the JDM ones are fine. But i'm no expert.

Anyway, for the money i bought my car for, it definitely ticks all the boxes that makes me grin ear to ear, compared to other cars at a similar price point.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
