BR9 aftermarket stereo back to factory: HELP

Recommended Posts

Few years back we bought my wife a 2010 BR9 legacy Jap import and came with a dreadful kenwood aftermarket stereo.

Long story short, I found a subaru legacy factory 'NZ new' stereo that came from a BR9 off trademe.  Met the guy and saw the car it came off so know its not stolen.

Plugs into our car perfectly and ran for 20 mins before it turned off and says "security".

I know that the original car has the code hand written in the factory log book but the guy I bought it off hasnt got it.

Is there any way to by pass this code? or disable it?  I can prove its not stolen.

@Subirex Automotive any ideas??

Have you called Subaru with the original cars plate or chassis number and asked if they can get you the code?

if it's NZ new they should have a record of it or be able to reset it.

No, are they able to do that?  Ill call them tomorrow or next week.  That would be great if they could.

They should be able too, haven't ever tied with Subaru but other brands do.

just act dumb give plate only (you are dumb and don't know what a chassis number is. Cars is for transport not fun), flat battery or some crap and can't find the book (husband lost it rant goes well here). If the missus calls it usually goes faster.

Same way if they serviced the cars and the stereo needed the code they'd have to get it.

but since it went for a while it maybe tied to the same security module as the keys and needs to be done at the dealers. Older ones locked up as soon as they got turned on after they lost power.

Winger was always helpful with the Suzuki I had and questions, sometimes Saturday staff are able to help depends who's working.

As long as you have the plate (or full VIN, if it's had a few plates) of the original car the code is usually retrievable.

With that said I - I don't know if a flat battery causes the stereo to lock itself in a Gen 5, ours sat without an engine for a few weeks and the head unit was unfazed. It might have some other way of knowing that it's been removed from its original body.

For anyone else write your stereo code on the inside of one of the trim peices or inside glove box in vivid, then it's always in the car.

But unlikely a thief will take the unrelated trim. Actually who steals factory stereos they are usually junk.

That was my thinking too. Who would steal a factory stereo.

I'm not aware of NZ new having security codes on radios. Maybe have CAN communication with BCM?

Where are you? I've not long had the factory radio out of the Mrs BM9 if you want to try that?

I’m in Auckland (Howick).

I read somewhere that the stereo talks to the ecu and if it isn’t the original it locks it.

Is it an NZ new stereo?

Actually if you have the wiring diagram you could disconnect the Canbus or data pins and reset the stereo by removing the power overnight. They might fail to working rather than locked.

may be too late given it already wants the code.

other option is @boostin could compare the serial number on the stereo to the default code he has, sometimes they are just part of the serial number.

So I plugged the stereo in, it didn’t ask for a code for the first 30 mins of driving, stereo then turns off asking for a code. I unplug it and leave for 15 mins, plug back in and it goes for another half an hour before asking for a code.

Yeah if @boostin could have a look at his serial number and code to see if it lines up that would be great. Or if you know even how to punch in the code??

had this issue couple years back when i was at the dealership. stereo doesn't come with security code from factory but the owners can choose to put a security code as some of these are security enabled stereos. there is a way to bypass those using select monitor with a special code. i did this once only and im pretty sure i have the code written somewhere. long shot but if you can make your way to the shop, i can check if my scanner can crack that code.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
