07 Legacy GTB Exhaust Question

Hi guys!

I have the 5S Auto model and wonder d if anyone could help or point me in the right direction.

Im wanting to get a little more power out of my car. I have the sub tech decat down pipe (to be installed) and the sti dual tip mufflers. I’m booked in for an ecu map and dyno tune at the end of next month and wondered if there is any point trying to find a replacement for the middle of the exhaust piping in terms of power gains? It’s also my understanding that the up pipes are catless in these cars too?

Also, are there any other mods I can do to increase performance in line with the tuning? I’m just trying to get my moneys worth out of my tune.

i don’t mind spending a bit of extra money either, I’m just struggling to find extra information of where I can actually buy any of these items in NZ too?? 😔

Thanks!!

A 3-port boost solenoid is well worthwhile along with an under manifold intake pipe potentially, depending on how much you want to spend.

Won’t see any difference with an aftermarket midpipe at the power you’d be aiming for. And as long as yours is the 2.0L GT then yes the uppipe is catless.

A word of warning though, a few auto versions of these cars have been tuned in the last year and had considerable knock issues so have either made considerably less power than manual ones and in the worst case damaged an engine so try not be disheartened if the final result isn’t as much as what you may have hoped for.

Thank you so much @Andy_Mac !!

Would you be able to point me in the right direction of where I could buy/price a 3-port boost solenoid and under manifold intake pipe?

Everything seems so hard to find in NZ as most websites that come up are AU/US.

The tuning shop has kindly offered to install and tune any mods at the same time as the remap/dyno (for a price of course haha) so I would like to have everything with me on the date of arriving there as it’s a 8hour round trip there...South Island life 😑🤙🏻 Haha.

Best bet would be to check if they have MAC valves there and that they can jimmy up some sort of bracket and wire one in.

Can buy a Grimmspeed one that had the correct plug and bracket but you pay 2-3 times for the same valve just painted black and plug n play.

I’d almost skip the intake pipe thinking about it as unless you have other plans in the future or your ones getting worn it won’t help you much at all

Thanks a bunch! Just out of curiosity, if you were in my position and you had a subtech downpipe ready to be installed and just had your breaks re-done and had $1000 prior to tuning to spare, what would you spend it on in terms of bang for buck gains? and where would the buy them from?

I see theres a conpatible GS 3 port on TradeMe but like you said it’s a fair bit more for plug and play at $215

More than happy to donate to the site for your time and advice too Andy 🙂

@Kiwi_Fozze @knockoutgiant @gotasuby

Wanna chime in with any thought’s on where best to spend a grand on one of these.

If set on spending the money you might as well do the undermanifold pipe along with a new air filter and resonator box delete. After that i’d say exhaust midpipe and then a full cold air intake but that’ll put you well past a grand all up and maybe give you a small bump in KW over just the 3-port and downpipe.

I’m in Wanaka so the closest place(to my knowledge) to me is Rapid Performance over in Timaru

Hey, good to see I'm not the only Subaru enthusiast in Wanaka! I feel your frustrations about being so isolated from everything.

Are you planning to tune on 95 octane or do you get 98 from Cromwell?

I drive a red/pink V7 wrx wagon around town quite a bit, flick me a wave of you see me about.

Thanks @Andy_Mac & @knockoutgiant

i think at this stage ill go go for the downpipe and 3 port boost as I already had the downpipe ready to go. Possible the air filter. Would something like this be a good replacement over the standard panel filter?

Could you point me in the in the right direction online for the under manifold?

I imagine i can have the resonator delete fabricated locally so that could be done prior to tuning too.

@IZichard any pictures of your wagon so I know what to look out for? :) I’m up in the air about 98/95, 98 would be better (I guess) but then it means spending an extra $10/15 on top of the 98 price just to fill her up.....is the gain worth it?

Just donated $20 to the site now, stoked already with all the help I’ve received.

Stick with the factory airbox and just get a replacement filter.

You can get people to look at the TCU settings, I've heard this can make the car feel a bit better between shifts (in the auto). Not sure if Rapid do this however.

@mlracing.co.nz may be able to help you with an under manifold intake pipe if you are sure you want one.

I don't want to spam the thread with pictures of my car but there is a glimpse in my profile pic or link to my garage thread in my signature. Hopefully I'll see you around.

I've been torn on the 95/98 thing lately too. If you daily it, then having it tuned for 95 would be far more practical but you will likely miss out on some power. As for how much power I'm not sure exactly.

I currently drive to Cromwell for 98 with two spare fuel containers for my gc8. It is a shame that the drive there isn't very interesting.

Intake resonator delete is just ripping the box/bottle off the bottom and either blanking it off or leaving it open. It’s before the filter and MAF so leaving it open won’t bother the car. Some tuners claim it should give better spool by a couple of hundred rpm.

Under manifold pipe can be AVO or Kobe maybe others but can’t think of any, for ones that have the correct number of ports. US spec ones have an extra port that would need to be blanked off.

Kobe is a guy on liberty.asn.au that has a handfull of Liberty/Legacy specific items

You're pretty much on the money there I'd say Andy. Personally I'd get an aftermarket Midpipe and apart from all the things Andy's already mentioned would be a aftermarket TMIC. After all that's done it starts getting REALLY expensive to make more power.

What options are there in NZ for after market TMICs for the 06 legacys ?

The Grimmspeed one is the gold standard right now for top mounts the size of frontmounts. Think I remember reading fitment has been confirmed for RHD but could be wrong so would need to double check.

The Processwest one is very good too. Most of the ‘stock’ fitment thicker ones are only slightly better than stock and for the most part won’t fit the JDM twinscroll turbo’s

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
