Daytime Running Lights

Recommended Posts

are you sure?

as in I'm being pedantic & many 'fog' lights are in fact DRL's & you can use them, or the headlights on low beam is a simple solution

back to fog lights : the symbol for fog lights is VERY similar to DRLS and easily confused

usually a case of RTFM (Read the effin Maual) :P

would be very odd for any Subaru to not have an extra set of lights, & do they still all go off with the key?

As I used to always leave my lights on on my 98 GTB, never had a flat battery cos they don't operate with key off etc

and believe it or not this symbol comes up when you Google DRL's too, same as fog but horizontal lines

You can just buy universal Daylights from the likes of Hella and get an auto electrician to hook them up properly for you.

Thanks

I was thinking more along the lines of fitting LED bulbs to the fog lights & having them come on with the engine.

on with the engine

Seriously, give the headlights a go, that's what I'm describing with the headlights, they only come on with the engine too (or used to on older models)

Did I mention this was my wife's car.

Not particularily hard, if not comfortable yourself get an auto sparky to just change the relays ‘signal’ wire to be straight from ignition rather than the button/stalk.

Thanks, that sounds like the answer.

What about changing the bulbs for LED's?

Unsure what bulb type those use but most variations have a LED option available these days so just need to get the bulb type, may be in the manual?, then have a look around and there’ll be something

DRL's are a completely different beam pattern to either headlights or fog lights, they are designed as the name implies to be seen in daylight. There is also "rules" as to the output of them, most of the LED replacement bulbs have to much output.

Read this https://www.hella.co.nz/en/technology/hella-led-safety-daylights™/

I would ONLY buy either HELLA or NARVA, if you want reliable and legal lights.

EDIT also have a read of this
http://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/get-your-lights-right/get-your-lights-right.html

specifically states that using foglights on clear days is illegal ( I know every one does it but still)

Bimmer is so much easier in this respect - the option is already there, you just need to code it. JDM versions have decoded DRLs but Euro and US have them coded and all you need to do is just to change a few parameters to activate the DRLs, can even pick how bright you want them or whether you want to have the rear lights on too. Can also choose what lights you want to act as DRL: low beams, spots, squid rings or a combination. Pretty cool and no we're not talking the latest models, I've successfully coded a 2007 E93.

Are you referring to accessing the onboard computer?

Are you referring to Subaru or BMW?

I doubt it'll be possible even on relatively fresh Subarus.

PS: if I was you I'd be checking genuine accessory catalogues for XV, japanese ones in particular. Then checking japanese marketplaces for a suitable kit.

Orange light is rear fog. Subaru's don't have an idiot light for daytime runners.

No, Subaru have no option to activate DRL's.

+1 for getting a decent aftermarket kit wired in properly. This means the lamps must turn off when the headlamps are on.

them rear fogs are the devil!

on my Mk 6 Escort I owned once it came on with the headlights & I have no idea until I did a walkaround, those are the really bright bright brake lights that can be quite dazzling

 Congrats Joker!

I assume you're pioneering the civil union between man and Subaru? :D

Or maybe teaming up with someone to make the next Possum Bourne!

Now I finally know what that symbol means, didn't even realise there was one for the back!

I turned it on a couple of times to see what it did and couldn't see any difference in the front fog lights, no wonder, I was looking at the wrong end!

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
