Removing door step trim for wiring to boot.

Hi All,

I bought my 2006 3.0R Legacy BL a few weeks ago and I’m in the process of upgrading the sound system. I’ve replaced the Carrozeria unit with a Headunit and now I’m trying to wire RCA, remote & power to the boot.

A bit of a noob topic but I’m having trouble removing the trim at the bottom of the door frame (so that I can get the wire under the carpet). I’ve read on these forums that there are 4 clips holding down the front door’s trim and I have located them but when I apply force with panel removal tools, it lifts slightly (10mm?) but does not unclip and the plastic starts to flex, to a point where it may be deformed if I push harder.

I haven’t experienced this before but it may be as my previous cars have been made pre-2000 so the panels are tighter.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions/specific ways to lift the trim.

Or if there’s a specific thread for wiring to the boot that I’ve missed let me know 😅

Cheers in advance.

Alec.

Prying on the plastic for the first time is always daunting. The clips are really tough initially but will pop in and out easily thereafter.

You’re just going to have to go for it to be honest, I’d suggest getting a mate to assist. Pry from four points (as close to the clips as possible) and pop them all out at once.

Goodluck dude!

Easy as. No need to go through the firewall! There is a grommet behind the passenger inner fender liner which provides direct access in behind the glove box. You just run the power cable up inside the fender and straight up to the battery!

@JGM I have got my wire running from battery to fender and have found the grometyou are talking about. Is it ok to cut in to this and put my 4GA wire through? It definitely won’t fit in with the other wires going through. I’ve tried poking a hole with a screw driver but it’s a very resistant rubber and maybe it’s like that for a reason. I could put a Sealant around the wire once it’s in place..? I am at a stand still

Yeah you can poke a hole in it mate. That shouldn't cause any problems. Sealant is a good idea if you have it but it is certainly not a necessity.

Yeahp! That’s exactly how you want to do it! Good thing @IZichard was online yesterday to direct you! Using sealant won’t be necessary as you should have a tight fit around your power cable.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
