1998 WRX Unusual fuel consumption

12 posts in this topic

Hi there everyone, I have a 1998 WRX GF8 and was wondering if anyone could advise me as to why my car is randomly using a lot more fuel. Just started happening and causes backfiring to occur, the only mods I have done are 3" Siamese downpipe and that's all

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Did you just change the exhaust when this started happening?

When does the backfiring occur exactly?

Any other problems with how it runs?

people pay good money to get bangs, pops and backfires.

every new sporty car seems to do this now.

lols. my current car used to have some bs in the tune to make it backfire constantly off throttle. Was annoying as hell.

Unfortunately I'm not cool enough to know what those are.

What's the smoke like out the back of your car? Get a mate to rev it while in your driveway and watch. If black its a sign you're running too rich. I'd suggest changing fuel filter spark plugs and running some strong injector cleaner in your fuel tank.

If that doesn't fix it time to test your afm with a multimeter and possibly clean.

Let us know how it goes.

No smoke whatsoever, just the occasional flame rev-matching on decel

Are you sure it is using more fuel than usual or could it be due to the exchange rate at the fuel pump operating at a lower level?

Hiya, would anyone in/near Wellington have a spare passenger floor mat for a 2006 Legacy b4? I’ve looked at a few aftermarket options but I’d like to find an original. Cheers!
