Sub woofer in Oem stereo

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

can someone please help me out with subwoofer installation process, as I am trying to install sub woofer in my subaru legacy 2005. I have installed all of the wiring but now I have got to a point where I can’t see the RCA slots at the back of the factory stereo.

What i have gathered from interent that you have to have RCA cables connected to stereo to get your subwoofer to work.

I went to local shops and they told me to replaced my stereo with new one but i am not in position where i can afford to buy a new stereo just for this issue.

I hope it explains, what i am trying to ask.

So, if anyone out there had same kind of issue and if they can share the soultions, will be much appreciated.

Cheers

Can be done without too much issue. No RCA jacks on the factory headunits so need to take a different route.

What headunit have you currently got? And more importantly, is there a stock subwoofer?

You’ll need a line level converter to tap off some existing speaker wires which then converts it to a low level RCA signal. You then plug your RCA cables onto that converter then into the amp that goes with the new sub

What @Andy_Mac said... Which factory setup do you have?

also what sub and amp are you trying to run, as some have the speaker level inputs already.

Local jaycar stores could have the converters... results are mixed no matter what brand you use, sometimes they are great other times you get noise or the stereo thinks there's an amp fault.

if you're on a really tight budget i guess something like this is available locally (in auckland)

you could always check out cash converters or dollar dealers or whatever your local pawned (stolen) goods shop is for a head unit.

Thanks mate, I ordered one from jaycar.

I think if you have a factory sub you may have to put the convertor connections to that or you may not get any bass.

Probably right, the rears are full range but imagine they chop the very bottom end off and leave that for the sub channel.

Sub is in the rear parcel tray if you’ve got one.

cant just splice into the high / speaker wires?

That's the idea, just not sure if they all see a full range or not. If the system doesn't have a stock sub and amp he’ll be in the clear to splice off rear speaker wires.

i mean to run a sub direct, like real basic no filters etc, I bridge (+ve from left Chan and -ve from right chan) to a sub from my head unit in the avenger for example (a Sony)

That's a feature on some aftermarket ones only. Need an amp designed to be bridged.

Likely blow the OEM amp :$ unless it's a designed to handle it.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
