Factory Bilstein Shocks - Where to find?

Mercurius

Recommended Posts

Hi,

My 2007 JDM import Legacy 2.0GT got a factory option Bilstein shocks on them and the RhF one is wearing out. Brought it to Alignment Specialists had a rebuild.

I noticed the shocks have SUBARU engravings (and parts number etc, forgot to record them) on them, and the guy did the job told me they are tailor-made for subaru so you are not likely to buy an original aftermarket from Bilstein. They are similar to B4/B6/B8 or whatever it is but not exactly the specific model.

Just wondering if these shocks go out & I want to buy an identical replacement, where should I ask? Maybe Winger?

Thanks

Keep in mind that most available used will be in questionable condition too, you could get 10k km or you could get 100k km from them, it’s always a gamble.

I wouldn't do one at a time, but if you have the cash to get some new standard Bilsteins as a whole set you’ll find they are pretty similar to the Legacy specced ones.

They do it quite often in the US for these cars since theirs came with much worse shocks than ours as standard even on the Spec B’s.

Thanks. I'm thinking about maybe buying a front set of standard B6. Happen to find an interesting info from one of the B6 reviewers on Amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/Bilstein-35-118312-Performance-Suspension-Assembly/dp/B009FU6ALO

Damping Values:
Model Compression Rebound (measured @0.52m/s)
35-118305 1090 2460 <- Front Left
35-118312 1090 2460 <- Front Right (this model)

20310AG411 750 1280 <- Front Left (OEM Spec B strut)
20310AG401 750 1280 <- Front Right (OEM Spec B strut)'

20310AG401 is the correct part number on my shock. Looks like a bit differences in damping force but I guess won't matter too much when changing both front.

Also interesting piece of info I found on Japanese parts site (translated.):

https://www.afterparts.co.jp/bilstein/bilstein_subaru.html

Legacy 03/5~09/5 BP5/BL5 (B4 2.0R/2.0GT)    B6    Front   Left)VE3-3066LJ; Right)VE3-3066RJ

It appears JDM Subaru Bilsteins are indeed a B6 variant, and they are given unique codes/no.

Get some Bilstein B6/B8 and you'll be all good.

Check local prices but most likely you'll be far better off importing from the EU (based on my experience anyway).

Thanks. I guess either way we have to import from EU/NA since Japan has export law that forbid freighting compressed air components like shocks or it is what I get the idea.

I'm pretty sure you can still do sea freight if you're prepared to wait for a couple of months and find a retailer willing to assist.

From what I remember B8 are designed to be used with lowering springs and B6 for stock.

Also keep in mind that that different revisions of BL/BP were equipped with different revisions of Bilsteins hence you'll see different part numbers. Earlier revisions were the stiffest ones.

People here have used @mlracing.co.nz and had good experiences!

Which is a container and is a few months wait.

I had an unpleasant experience with 41 Automotive which are/were a CS sponsor. Nor they ended up being much cheaper than going through buyee of the likes anyway. Priced up a few things through MLR too (including a Bilstein B12 kit). Was still cheaper and certainly much quicker to import myself directly.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
