Radar Detectors 2019

I'll be keeping an eye out for a well-priced R3. Performance seems similar and the wrong-facing thing would just annoy me. Also I don't really feel a huge need for the arrows, if a police car with radar running is closing on your from behind then you're probably not going to get a ticket, other than maybe for going too slow.

Also having a nosy around the Escort Max Ci Platform, as I really am a big fan of hardwired detectors.

No RHD model too. BIG mistake considering how good the R3 still is, and how much better the R7 is despite it only being a slight upgrade.

Radenso might be the detector brand to go for soon...the main developer who did the R3 & R7 has just left Uniden for Radenso.

So, I'll get me a new R3 me thinks.

Nothing wrong with an R3, I've had mine just over a year.

But after 22 years of a V1, I really missed the directional capability. The R7 addresses this as well as a useful increase in range. The weak point is K BSM from some cars, but an upgrade is promised for this.

As far as no RHD version, don't let that put you off. The V1 is LHD only too, and was never an issue for me. , although the display is recessed on the R7 so you'll want it just to the right of muflube, not on the left.

My R3 will go on a TM auction which I'll link to this thread.

yikes.. at 1300 nzd rrp that's about twice of what the r3nz can be had for new! guess i'll chuck the r3 back on my monitoring list on TM :(

that's r1 price, r3 are ~$899

bought mine in january this year from radar direct.

happy to sell to here or off to tardme too.

:)

there will never be a rhd version as the market is just too small.

Am I missing something with the arrows? I've never really understood why you would need them.

It’s for when you’re in full Need for Speed Underground mode and in a police chase, arrow says they’re in front? Better slow down, behind? Speed up, left? Turn right. Just gotta hope you don’t get a 5 star wanted level, that’s when s*** get cereal

AUS, NZ and UK. Not a huge market but not one to ignore either.

You're not wrong but not 100% right either. Considering there is probably near or over 2billion people who live in countries that drive on the left like us....  2billion isn't a small market. Though 1.4billion of that is India, of which the average income per year as of 2016 is $616usd annually. There will still be millions who can afford it, but yeah.

Yes but it's not much effort to mirror the design and produce a smaller run at a higher cost.

I am selling both the Uniden R7 and R3 on trademe.  But if you send me a message on here, or look me up on the radar forum, I can offer a much better price (due to high Trademe sellers fee).  These are completely brand new, and come with 12m warranty.

Mine also come with our exclusive GPS databases which is the only one available for the R3 / R7 that includes all of the NZ cameras.  This has taken many hours of development and testing with the help of many members on the Radar Detector Forum.  => If people are keen to get either an R7 or an R3, I can supply them with shipping and better DB all at a lower cost than available anywhere else in New Zealand.

Funny, but rather silly. But understandable if you’ve never used a detector with directional capability.

It adds a whole new dimension to your special awareness of radar, but if that means nothing to you, don’t waste your money.

But don’t rubbish what you don’t understand 😂

are you getting your r7 straight from the usa ?

what firmware are they running ?

will your r7 have segmented k-band ?

if i get one from you with us firmware do i have to stick to us for upgrades or can you mix 'n match with nz firmware ?

how much for a new r7 ?

do you have them in stock ?

thanks.

My R7 is currently installed with the US firmware, but running our own fully comprehensive NZ only GPS database.

The NZ firmware has not yet been released.  However, the firmware will be interchangable, as our R3s can be installed with any firmware version.

Therefore, at present we only have access to the US firmware on the R7.  However, the R7 firmware is very strong, and better than you would have on the R3.  Auto GPS lockouts and K band segmentation will be future options that will become available in the future.

Currently I only have one R7 left in stock.  Price would be NZ$1200.

If anyone has an R3 and would like to try the improved US firmware and/or has a US R3 and would like to try the NZA firmware I can provide access to interchange your firmware free of charge.  I can also provide access to out new GPS NZ database.  Our databases are serial number encrypted to be made device specific to prevent copying. However, the installation is quite straight forward.

This is all part of our service, which aims to complement the overall support from Uniden radar detectors, and applies to all models in New Zealand and Australia.

thanks for the above info but you didn't answer the first question.

where are you sourcing your R7 from ?

also, are you a commercial business ?

$1200 for a grey import isn't saving much over nz retail.

I'm not going to reveal my sources, as I am in direct competition with blulink NZ.  However, I will say that I'm am not importing from the US.

This is a relatively new business venture for me.  So please also try to see where I'm coming from.

Hope that helps.

Strange... I have an R7NZ with NZ firmware.

Something doesn't quite fit here. The US site specifically states that Australia and NZ unites should not use the firmware update available on the US site....

We have different frequencies licensed here compared to USA for use by police etc.

The hardware will be the same which is why the firmware will install and unit appears fully functional.

Even if you fixed the gps the USA firmware likely greatly reduces the detection of car mounted radar.

I’d guess these are custom digital signal filters think of it like audio band pass filters or a parametric EQ and the USA ones would block a chunk of the NZ frequencies.

Like listening to drum and bass with the eq set to vocal. You’ll miss half of the music as the bass is filtered out.

If you want to discuss these types of matters, please seek advice on the RD Forum, where you find my views reflect the experience of many many others in NZ AU, US and elsewhere.  The US firmware works perfectly well in New Zealand.  The US R3 firmware in particular is superior than the NZA firmware, many NZA R3s have been converted over now.  I offer both firmware versions on the R3 but recommend the US firmware for the R3 in NZ as it covers the same range, frequencies and sensitivity, but with better support and functionality.

The R3 and R7 KA band frequency ranges both extend beyond what is required in NZ. This why you would be advised to cut the range down in NZ to Ka band segmentation 4, 5, and 6 for the NZ police frequencies. The R7 has K band scanning range that extends below the frequency needed for the NZ mobile redflex regardless of firmware.  Therefore the R7 is superior to the R3 regardless what firmware you install.  Hope that helps.

Myself and others have actually tested the R3 in NZ comparing both the US and NZA firmware installed on the same actual unit.  The range is the same, and typically slightly better than the original escort redline.

These are some of the comments I typically get regarding my updates (this was from an original NZA R3 owner):

"My r3 got updated by @Mithheru runs like a dream. Highly recommend getting update from him. Better menu options and way better gps alerts."

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
