What else while Head Gasketing

I'm irrationally attached to a 2002 GTB wagon.   Its done 230k and now the  Head Gasket has just gone 😂,  ( it did this a day after I looked down on someone for poor maintenance when they told me this happened to their old sub )   Anyway I've decided to get it fixed.   I'm wondering while the engine is out is there anything else I could get the mechanic to work on / look over / cool stuff.   The cam belt was done 30k ago, so... other than that.  This car is all stock, and despite its k's tidy.

 

Am I insane spending ~$2k to fix this on a car this old,  too late because I am, but if you want to reassure me then that's cool .

Cambelt? "Rocker cover" gaskets (valve cover) exhaust gaskets water pump if not done ever...  um get your head read

 

230 seems 'normal' that's when mine went in my BG5c GTB (heater hose split & dumped coolant)

 

so yeah, all heater / rubber hoses too?

Since you’ll have it all apart anyway and seem very attached, why not do a cheap a cheerful rebuild for peace of mind too. Some places do them bloody cheap these days if it's not being built for aftermarket parts. Or just find a lowish km block and chuck that straight in with a quick condition check ahead of time.

 

Could then get a safe tune for it and be confident it’ll last another 100,000km+ with better response and fuel economy than you probably have now.
