Recommendations for Handling

Recommended Posts

Just bought a 2011 WRX Sedan

Fitted some 18x9.5 Work Emotion Kiwami wheels last night and have just ordered:

-Blitz Coil overs with front camber plates

-Sti front and Cusco rear strut bar

-Whiteline front and rear sway bar kit

-Whiteline control arm brace

-Cusco pitch stop arm

-Whiteline Sub-frame/steering column/rear diff bushings

-Kartboy shortshifter with bushings

-Whiteline Raised front roll center ball joints with new tie rod ends

What would you guys recommend to help get the alignment to decent spec and improve handling?

Rear camber arms?

Toe arms for front or back?

Trailing arms?

In terms of reinforcement, I'm looking at a lower control arm brace that links both sides but so far haven't due to shipping cost

It's my daily driver, not a track car but I like having a good solid feel through corners.

In terms of performance it has an upgraded larger top mount intercooler and intake with a tune for 98 gas, I have looked at a larger silicone turbo inlet and a full exhaust but can't justify the expense. Might just do a cat back (will I need to re-tune?) and call it a day as I'm ok with how it sounds now (the original exhaust is a little rusted however so theres an excuse to replace it :P )

Any ideas or experiences with what you guys have done that's made a good improvement?

I'll be looking at upgraded brake pads and rotors in the next few months too

P.s even a decent place to buy parts from, importing from the USA isn't my favorite choice

congrats, is that a facelift my11 model ?

my11 wrx and sti already got major suspension upgrades.

for a daily i'd leave it alone.

no mention of tyres.

first handling upgrade should be decent tyres, which will improve steering, handling, braking.

nice!! have you got the whiteline anti lift kit & Bump steer kit? that could be of benefit. besides that sounds like you have the basis covered! CR Kais have to be one of my favorite wheels cant wait to see pictures.

As for brakes - Znoelli are awesome I have the DDS discs and have had no issues and run their sp500 pads

All those bushes are a big help to power delivery.

Those roll centre kits are great too if you are super low. 35mm drop minimum if you don’t go lower than that the steering get light and handling goes crap.

those toe arms are hard to get legal here now :(

The down pipe and tune are best to do before the cat back as the down pipe increase noise a lot.

Congrats on the car.

Thats a lot of suspension upgrades for a daily. I would start installing one or two at a time and then drive it for a while and then move to the next mod. You can easily make it too harsh for a daily if your not careful (I did this and it gets annoying after a while).

Both sway bars and blitz coilovers will make a huge difference alone.

I recommend getting a downpipe and get the tune touched up like @Gripless said.

Brake pads - Call these guys and they will give you good advice https://braketechnz.com/

Yes - My11 Facelift - Premium (leather + sunroof)

Tyres are decent - definitely something I won't cheap out on again (makes car useless the moment you try go a little bit fast)

The raised lower ball joint / tie rod ends are supposed to help with bump steer but doing it more as the factory ones are starting to disintegrate and I'm preempting issues with the drop when I put the coil overs in. Will look at getting the Whiteline bump stop bushing kit once I've got everything installed and see how the car drives.

Work Kiwami wheels were second hand but like new, actually the second pair I've had and on my second Subaru haha (V11 STI with chrome blue Kiwami).

I'm guessing I might have to roll my guards, any places you guys would recommend?

Will upload pics if I get home before dark

For now here's a teaser of the rear strut bar install:

Don't suppose they're matte black Kiwami’s?

Bronze, was thinking of matte black to go with the pearl white but haven’t seen any others in the 5x100 stud pattern for sale

  • 2 weeks later...

So finally got most of the parts and have been putting them in slowly every other day after work, (green = completed)

-Blitz Coil overs with front camber plates - Didn't fit (think they were actually off an STI)

-Sti front and Cusco rear strut bar

-Whiteline front and rear sway bar kit ( lateral locks, rear sway bar mount support bars, heavy duty end links)

-Whiteline control arm brace

-Cusco pitch stop arm

-Whiteline Sub-frame bushes

-Whiteline Power steering rack bushes

Whiteline rear diff bushes

-Kartboy shortshifter

-Whiteline shifter bushes

-Whiteline Raised front roll center ball joints with new tie rod ends

Also ended up getting a few more bits and pieces below that weren't on my orginal list:

- Whiteline Transmission mount insert

- Whiteline Transmission cross-member pad (bushes?)

- Torque Solutions Driveshaft Carrier mount solid bushes

- Nolathane front lower control arm bushes

At the moment the NVH isn't too bad, I would say the only noticeable increase was from the pitch stop mount and this allows a lot more noise to resonate off the transmission during low gear acceleration. The transmission cross member pads also seem to have allowed a very very subtle "jet plane" like noise to come through into the cabin too.

Overall so far the short shifter and strut bar mounts have been my favorite, but that could change once I've had a chance to install the sway bar kit.

Considering a few more parts once I'm done but I should probably save the money and put it towards an after market exhaust (turbo back with silicon turbo inlet + tune $$):

Cusco Brake cylinder stopper brace

Cusco Rear floor power brace

Cusco Rear cross member brace

Would't mind doing a comparison if someone has a stock 2011-2014 WRX just to see the difference after all the mods

nice understated wrx 👍

tyres look stretched, what brand/model/size ?

parking meter is a nice touch 😄

Nitto tyres, slightly stretched (last owners choice) - i think they are 225/40 18, Once they're worn out I'll opt for 245/255 35 18 to have the correct amount of rubber for the rim (9.5")

Parking meter hasn't been topped up in awhile and the parking warden can be quite a b!tch but no parking tickets yet, fingers crossed ;)

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
