2008 outback windscreen replacement

So unfortunately a rock flicked up and got my windscreen so it has a decent crack on passengers side. It has eyesight and heated windshield is this going to be something I can have replaced most places or a specialist? A bit worried what it's going to cost too.

When I checked the car for you I remember the guy saying it was a pain in the ass getting the windscreen replaced for it as that version never had I-Sight according to the glass places. Had to take it in and they had to source one especially made for it.

Ah s*** that doesn't sound good lol, I might have to forgo the heated screen and just get a normal legacy screen. Apparently shouldn't need to calibrate it if I just use an oem legacy screen. Hopefully

Will be trying to find one hat will have the clear area for the I-sight that I’d say be harder. In my experience Novpvus been excellent and treated the cars I have had windows replaced on really well. Smith and smith was f***ing terrible. Left windscreen adhesive over bonnet and excess around window.

The best way to guarantee the right windscreen is to have one ordered through the dealer. Even then, calibrating the Eye-Sight comes down to the replacement method. They need to replace any gel pads or adhesives used between the cameras and any other sensors the system uses. Fingers crossed they don't hit or knock the cameras when removing & refitting. The number of cars we see for a windscreen recalibration with poor workmanship or cameras requiring re-aiming ($45k of equipment needs to be ordered in) is horrific unfortunately...

Could an option be you add windscreen cover to your policy now and hold out on the claim until the next WOF?

For my 2c, I had a rear windscreen replaced by Smith & Smith (forget the branch) they used second hand glass, snapped the aerial wires off left hanging and left a lot of glass in the car. They refused to ever use second hand glass, and said they were not qualified or equipped to remove all the glass from within the boot... Their tune changed I had my insurance company involved...

Yeah I might do that, should have mentioned it's in passengers side and isn't that visible really. I might have to do what you said

If you're planning an insurance fraud might as well just delete this post. Insurance companies are not as dumb as some might think.

And my $0.02. I had a heated windscreen of my BH5 initially replaced by Novus - installed a LHD made in China special with heated strip on the opposite side from where  RHD ones are. Left a decent mess as well. After a few phone calls to my insurance company a new genuine glass was ordered from Japan. S&S installed it and did a stellar job. Though they were obviously toldb by the insurer to not furk it up or else they won't get paid.

If bimmers glass gets farked I'd be going straight to the dealer and let them talk to my insurance company. Way too many sensors, cameras as well as a HUD set-up.

Yeah, I probably should've mentioned that haha. @iludez
Even delaying the claim, it boils down to insurance fraud, so make of that what you will...

You'd be surprised how little the dealer will have to do with the whole replacement process, and in cases we've had, the glaziers say their hands get tied by the insurance company forcing aftermarket glass to be used. In our case anyway we can only advise genuine parts be used, then supply a genuine screen and fix/calibrate/aim when the inevitable c**k-up occurs

With the HUD, I wouldn't be too concerned about the windscreen's role there, most commonly the HUD unit sits in the dash and is only projected/displayed onto the windscreen so no direct link there

If you really want to think too hard about it I start worrying about the different refractivity of light through the lesser quality glass, and if that impacts all these super sensitive and closely calibrated safety systems...

Correct. The unit is positioned in the dash.

Incorrect. Completely different windscreens as the area where HUD is projected on to is distorted/has different reflective properties.  Yes you can fit a normal glass but the HUD image will be blurry.

$2000 quotes. From dealer and Smith and Smith, spoke to another company and they confirmed it's the old ass eyesight which doesn't use any sensors just the cameras so going to be $400. Sweet!

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
