Impreza - Waterlogged reverse light lens

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a 2011 Impreza 1.5 hatchback imported from Japan. The left rear reverse light clear lens (on the hatchback door, next to the brake and indicator lens assembly) is collecting water.

There are 2 screw-in metal bolt heads visible straight away which I removed. I then raised the door, removed the plastic trim and disconnected the bulb assembly. There does not appear to be any other tabs or screws holding the lens in place. However, it is very difficult to remove the lens. I tried pressing out the left side of the lens so that it came off the length of the threaded bolt and used a screwdriver to gently push out the right side of the lens, but only succeeded in breaking off a bit of the plastic!

Any advice on how to do it right?

Thanks.

I have (had) the same issue with my lights, water was getting in some how and fogging. To the point where it failed a wof. I've taken them off, cleaned, checked for cracks ect, can't find anything. All i did was drill two small holes at the lowest two points for any water to drain out/get air circulation. Been that way for a few years now, no issues at all

Have you taken off the plastic boot lining behind the light? There are always hidden clips. Usually parts come out on a strange angle and if something isn’t coming off easily it’s for a reason (hidden clip etc). Google is usually good for removal videos

You have to either bake your assy in the oven or use a heat gun to help get the lens off.

It depends on what you want to do, you could try either opening it up and adding extra sealant, maybe using soapy water and blowing compressed air to find the leak or using water with uv dye and trying to. Find the leak that way.

Those are all time consuming methods though and I personally like drilling a tiny hole at a low point and considering it done :)
