Man they are cheap and nice

Unbelievably cheap. Even with the extra features it shows how heavily the R&D bumped up the EFR price.

The only downside is the CHRA being journal bearing and oil cooled only.

That is a bit sad.

Have to go old skool and duct some of the scoop to cool the turbo

No need to step up to the 300 series. The 257 is rated to 650 so technically 100 more than a 7064/7163. Plus way way cheaper.

This is my understanding too.

R&D plus the BOV, BCS and IWG - but more than double the price 😅

Could run a secondary oil cooler just for the turbo maybe?

The efr have that titanium based wheel and billet compressor.

That must add cost

On the Full Race site they list the S257 as same wheels as the EFR "57mm Forged-Milled EFR7670 compressor wheel, optimized aerodynamics" and "Inconel 70mm turbine wheel, same blade shape as EFR7670" but then the EFR7670 says "BW utilizes their 70mm Gamma-Ti turbine wheel" so I don't know if they are different or the same?

Don't mean to hijack your thread @Andy_Mac 😅

The compressor wheel is the same, but the turbine wheel is titanium and is glued on to the shaft. The shaft is also different in the EFR series, as they would have to balance the compressor to turbine wheels.

Aerodynamically the same, but presumably a cheaper, heavier material. Same flow potential, worse spool and transient response.

Hmm, OK cheers!

So I think what should happen here is @Andy_Mac should purchase both the S257 and the EFR 7670 and back to back test them for us. Then we can figure out how many $ per reduced RPM spool time the EFR is worth 🤣

Reckon a task like that has @Niran written all over it. Just skip the holiday for the Mrs and get a second equally sized turbo. You've already got the EFR part of the test sorted

I still am somewhat tempted but the response of the 7163 is just so hard to look past considering the mid range is my priority area. Aren't you keeping it at this point anyway?

Ultimate plan should be to sell me this one and buy @Tony, s big boy EFR

@Andy_Mac I was going to, unless i could sell the whole turbo setup - downpipe, uppipe and intake. Not sure how they'll fit in the leggy though bro
