Engine installer's - Dunedin

Hi all,

Replacing my engine in the B4 and was wondering whether anyone would know of a good place to go to. Considering southern motor court as the car is sitting there now and it's a subaru main dealer, but not sure of the cost figure yet.

Any help would be appreciated.

Are you meaning just getting the motor installed?? or talking about getting the whole 2nd hand motor and then getting it installed?

Best Estimate from me looking at around $3500+ GST for motor and install. (thats including labour costs and oil etc)

I have already sourced a motor (2200 inc gst). Just need to find a installer now . Southern Motor's have quoted 3866 inc gst to install engine. This also includes replacing cambelt, tensioners, water pump, clutch, oil pump seals and servicing the radiator. Seems quite fair?

Yeah haha . . still 6 grand all up for a second hand engine with no history is a fair gamble with your money tbh ???

oh yeah, but i still have to factor in the 2200 for the second hand engine itself

are you kidding me??? It cost my insurance $4000 for 2nd hand motor that included installing and new tensioners etc, and that was at southern for a WRX.

I wish. And at 18 that is ALOT of money to come up with hah. Guess that's why these cars are so cheap. They're fine, until something goes wrong and they become bottom less pits!

Agree with glen here. Ring and ask them.

The motor thats in my car cost $1800incl gst. The rest was mainly labour... didnt get discount this time as it was an insurance job DAM ROCKS

if your clutch doesnt need done don't do it, save ya self $500 Waterpump may need done if the 2nd hand motor is old ... lucky for me my old motor had new water pump and oil pump etc

yeah but new clutch replacement is 1300. May as well do it while the engine is out. Oh, why cant a impoverous student like myself have luck like that :

Did you ask Southern to try and source a motor for you??? they may find cheaper.

Yeah i did but they wernt too keen on that pretty much said thats up to me

stupid this is alot of that labour cost could be saved if they didnt have to fit new tensioners ETC, putting a motor in doesnt take them long at all looking at around 2 to 3hrs if that.

Seen them do it in like 30mins sometimes.

Ring or email a Subaru dealer and get them to quote you the parts. Some seem a bit pricey.

Don't be too surprised, last year i bought an air filter for $13 (factory filter) This year bought the same thing $25. and thats at my price ..... all i could think was WTF is going on here.

my mate will do it cheap for you, but wont touch the clutch/waterpump etc, he will be back in town on thursday so can ask him then for you...
