@Individualities Race brakes have dba rotors cheap as.

i got the dba pads but they are pretty weak and I won't get them again.

if you haven't already got a good price for whiteline, let me know the place I get them from might help you out too.

@Individualities which MCA’s are you going for?

They've recommended me Street Ultimates, and I'm kinda convinced. I'd probably spec all the extras on their lower range ones, and they come out at a similar price to Street Ultimates as is.

But I'm happy to be swayed into Essentials or something!

Good to know. I'm after a set of slotted rotors, for the better performance, and the more purposeful look behind the wheels.

I was gonna go through my usual mechanic in Whangarei, as I used to work there, and he generously still charges me trade price! Despite me leaving over 3 years ago.

Can always compare quotes between them and your guy!

@Individualities street ultimate should do you well. I'll be interested to see how much better they are than the street performance. Suppose it's all in the custom valving which should get things almost perfect for your needs provided you give them the right info from the beginning.

An extra $700 is quite a lot though. You're starting to get into the price territory of some other high end coilovers at that price.

The custom valving is what's drawn my attention, and the fact that basically you can make everything custom for them. I especially want the camber washers!

$700 is a lot. But for what I want, it's worth it. I'd call MCA a high end brand myself. Definitely a brand to consider if you want a good set of coilovers in NZ/Australia. None of that Tein crap lol. I get very tired very quickly of how some people HAVE TO HAVE everything JDM 'yo

Tein are very very good for the money in my experience. Not only would I not bag on them I would actively consider looking at them if I were you. Look up MotoIQ's review of the New Tein Flex Z's before writing them off. Just my 2c...

Don't get me wrong MCA look extremely good but its big $$$

Ugh. Can't catch a break with this bloody car.

It's all together, few small fuel leaks thanks to missalignment of fuel rail to injectors. No big deal.

However, it looks like I have a dead injector driver in the ecu but I can't confirm this until I've got a spare ecu to test this. Soooo anyone got a spare G4 storm or extreme?

True true. Sadly my experience with Tein suspension while working in a Automotive shop that specialised in Suspension & Brakes has left me kinda with a bad opinion of Tein.

They are probably not a bad coilover at all - just my personal experience with them on customers cars has not been mostly positive.

I'm prepared to spend the big money in all honesty. For a lot of reasons.

Probably the main reason is because a full set of original springs is BIG money (mine's sacked out in the back a fair bit, and this causes toe and camber problems when it needs an alignment). And a set of coilovers from MCA is not too much more, and I get new shocks (custom valved), adjustable height (I'd be running the car at basically stock height, with maybe lowering it for a track day if the opportunity arose), and adjustable dampening. Plus MCA's camber washer system is pretty dang neato - basically a permanently locked eccentric front strut bolt (for the camber).

They've been illegal for a few months now.

Not wanting to take any chances.

So you can’t have any LED bulbs in the place of standard incandescent bulbs?

I think it's just for headlights.

You can have them provided that they don't do any of these things:

Stop lamps

(Reasons for rejection)

14. A lamp emits a light that is:

a) not substantially red, or

b) not diffuse, or

c) not projected to the rear, or

d)  not approximately equal in intensity from the other lamp in a pair, or

e) not bright enough to produce a light that is visible from 100m in normal daylight, eg due to modification, deterioration, dirt or an incorrect light source, or

f) is altered, eg due to damage or modification.

Tail lamps

(Reasons for rejection)

12. When switched on, a lamp emits a light that is:

a) not substantially red, or

b) not diffuse, or

c) not projected to the rear, or

d)  not approximately equal in colour or intensity from that of the other lamp in a pair, or

e) not steady, or

f) not bright enough to be visible from 200m in normal darkness, eg due to modification, deterioration, dirt or an incorrect light source, or

g) is altered, eg due to damage or modification.

There is nothing I can find in the VIRM that says you can't have them. The recent law change made the modification of headlamps to use a different kind of bulb illegal (eg HID or LED bulbs in an incandescent housing). LInk

Quote

18. A headlamp is retrofitted with a type of light source other than that specified by the vehicle manufacturer or the headlamp manufacturer (eg a headlamp designed for a halogen bulb is fitted with any other type of light source such as an HID or LED bulb, or any other light source such as LED strips or non-OEM angel eyes) (Note 8).

@IZichard was talking to my old boss at the shop I worked at, and he says they're illegal. It's something to do with the "performance" of the retrofit LED bulbs.

He says the VIRM that changed it was INCREDIBLY vague about it - took their lead WoF inspector to calling LTNZ about it, and getting the proper definition out of them.

Probably due to a market flooded with cheap bulbs on Facebook and TradeMe, that are pretty damn average. Sucks for me, as I've only bought Philips/Osram branded bulbs, which actually say that they're better than incandescent bulbs.

This is from what I've heard, and what you hear from someone else might be different. Depends on your inspector too, but for where I take my car, has to have incandescent :(

Unless it can be pointed to a specific line/s in the VIRM that excludes it then it should be a pass. I have read through the stop light and tail section a couple times now and I don’t see anything that excludes LED bulbs for tail/stop lights.

Well, good news is good. The RA is running again after 2 years. Took a while to hunt down and fix the random niggly issues like the fuel leaks and small wiring issues that turned out to be nothing.

Its running on full e85 which is awesome. Narrowband sensor doesn't cut the mustard though as expected haha. So wideband will go in tonight, as will the fuel pressure sensor and I'll try sort ethanol content sensor too
