  1. Was driving over to Eketehuna yesterday and between the track and Pahiatua i spotted a black legacy approaching from behind at speed. I was doing 110 and the bh Gt passed me as if i was a rolling chicane. So i speed up a little just to see how fast he was going and followed for a couple of minutes at 130ish. I then backed off and he disappered into the distance. After another few ks the legacy appeared to be slowing and i caught up again. Approaching a right hand uphill corner I noticed a huge cloud of white/blue smoke covering the road. I had to slow right down to see through the cloud and 100 meters up the road was the legacy idling away with smoke billowing from the exhaust. Some one will be looking for a new turbo. And thats my sharn...

  2. So it's been a while. This is a v7 sti standard crste motor with second hand standard heads off a v7 sti. Supporting fuel system and a link ecu. Fmic and bolt on twin scroll blouch 3.0xt-r turbo. We wanted 400hp with bolt on turbo on pump gas. This is I think the limit of what is achieveable on a bolt on turbo. It is at 26psi to achieve it.

  4. Took my car in for its lvta cert inspection today. The certifier was happy with everything and it passed, just need to do some paper work and wait for the plate to turn up. I’m so happy after 5 months of trying to get it looked at!

  5. Does your car makes nasty scraping sound when you wind down the windows, or maybe you've got scratches down your windows already? The issue is caused by the buffers the window is secured by getting worn and full of ingrained dirt like so; You'll need; * a Subaru with frameless windows (any will work mostly the same way, but this guide is for BP/BL Legacies) * socket set (mainly a 10mm) * medium JIS/Philips screwdriver * small flat head * old toothbrush * graphite powder (i got mine from repco years ago, but you can also get it from Mitre10) Step 1; First start by putting the window down. Once you've removed the door card you wont be able to without having to replug it, and thats a pain you don't need to bother with. Remove the door card, you'll have 3 screws, one behind a panel behind the chrome door handle, and two behind the door pull trim. For the one behind the chrome door handle, first hold the handle open and insert the flat head in the small opening at the top of the panel behind the handle. Try to push down to flex the panel and it should pop out. The door pull trim is a pain to remove. It is probably the hardest part of this whole thing. You'll need to pull the top of the handle towards you and kinda twist it in the direction of the dashboard. (if looking down at the handle on the drives side twist Counter-clockwise, and for the passenger side twist Clockwise Then there are many clips, lift the card up and clear of the door, and disconnect a couple of connectors. To disconnect the chrome door handle, open the hatch, unclip the two actuator cables (the top one for the lock, the bottom for the handle) from the housing and rotate the cable so the ball at the end can be removed from the handle Step 2; You'll have two metal backed buffers (green) on the inside of the window that are held in by one 10mm bolt, and two plastic backed buffers (blue) clipped on the outside of the window that you remove by pulling both sides in to unclip it. If you have the Mcintosh headunit make sure you don't drop them as the door is covered in sound deadening and will be a pain to reattach neatly. Step 3; Restore the buffers. I used a flat head screw driver to lightly pull up the pile, being careful not to damage the pile or the backing material. Once there is nothing left flattened get a old toothbrush and carefully brush it to remove the dirt. You can try wetting it, but i've found that just causes it all to clump together. Before; After; Once it looks clean you should add some graphite powder to the buffer to aid as a lubricant (you don't want something wet like silicon as it'll leave a trail on the window, and also hold dirt and make it fail again all the sooner. Step 4; Reinstall!! When you removed the inner buffers it should of left some witness marks to where it was installed at the factory. Try and put them back where they were and it should hold the window nice and secure. Otherwise reassembly is the reverse as removal. Once its back together make sure the window will go up and down and the door will shut and you should be done.

  6. Soooo did a thing again. Sold my RS4, and thought I'd try find a cheap but well modded car to drive until the V11 gets finished. Enter the 2002 Prodrive STI. All the right bolt ons including a link ECU, TE37s, semi slicks, new Teins and making 220kw! Only catch is high 220kms. Looks to be well maintained mechanically though! Body requires a bit of TLC. All in all, great car! Building up my photography skills too haha.

  7. So I wanna get the race car rolling so I can get it to a mates warehouse with the intention of it going up on a hoist... We will have a heap of space to work in when it's there too so hopefully this keeps the motivation up lol Anyway: put the front lower control arms in and discovered I'm missing a whole box of nuts and bolts.... so instead of a castle nut on the ball joint I have a wheel nut (dw this is only temp so I can get it rolling) Wanted to see what the brembos going to look like (and yes i know that's the drivers side caliper... the other one was under three rotors in a box) Turns out I don't have the brembo caliper bolts either.... that ones sitting there precariously on some undersized bolts... Next we started putting doors on, put the guard support brackets on and then the guards \ Next on the list is to order a bushing kit for the rear so we can put the subframe etc back in This will then mean I have a roller!

  8. Sooooooo did another thing.... since selling NARSTI, bought another project. RS4!! Not just any RS4. Its supercharged, full miltek exhaust, lowered on Bilsteins and reasonably tidy. Only catch is ks are high - 229k kms 😯 Different with euros though, high ks are generally ok if well maintained. This was owned by the previous owner for 7 years. Won't be keeping her for long but enough to stop this RS4 itch I've had. Honestly the sound is freaking incredible. Pulls like crazy from 1000rpm all the way through. Pretty amazing cars!

  9. Another update. The car was tuned last week by WRC Developments in Napier. I'm very happy with the results. Graham was very professional and definitely knows his stuff! The car feels the best it ever has.

  11. Too excited not to share. Some of you will have seen I sold my old type R.. Only reason was because I managed to win this unicorn at Auction! The v6 type R LTD!! Only about 580 made, arguably the rarest subi you can get next to the 22b. Few things made it 'affordable' haha but I don't really care as i'll keep it forever: Its an R grade - but was just in a minor frontal (cross member, front support, guards and bonnet replaced, no apparent chassis damage). Still registered in Japan meaning its of a good standard. 78,000kms!!! It is modified (WIN WIN WIN) - GDB 6 speed, engine and GRB brembos and maybe some other drivetrain components (hence the UGLY AF wheels) Looks very very tidy if not for the R grade. So dam stoked to snag this. Been looking for one for over a year! Anyone know what wheels those are? Trying to figure out if the hubs were replace to 5x114.3 or 5x100 based on those.

  13. Well, this has to be potentially one of the most frustrating weekends I've had with Subarus in a VERY long time. warning. LONG read. tl;dr LOTS of things don't go my way. Things broke that shouldn't have broke. I consider insurance fraud. I fixed it after putting in WAY too many stressful hours. I'm definitely not selling it now because it owes me WAY too much money. Also, @SAS Richard, thank you for the help on identifying the issue from over 1200km away Man knows so much about Subarus it's not funny. Kinda is, comical but guru is literally a thing. @94 Leone Dude, you're legendary. Your assistance in getting this flame heap of a turd running was absolutely critical, I can't thank you more. lastly, take a moment to thank people who share information here on clubsub. You're all awesome. I wouldn't know anything or how to fix much without this community or its support. So cheers all. =================================================================== Got my Legacys engine back and started putting it in on Saturday, engine in the bay in under an hour. Going really well! I thought Start bolting things up run out of light so call it a day. Good progress was made. Sunday brings us getting most of the last things bolted up! all ancillaries, coolant system, etc all hooked up ready to go! and nothing It cranks but won't do crap. Check fuel priming to injectors. Yeap got fuel pressure. Check Spark? Yep got that too. Breathe in? Yep got air. Pulled spark plugs and they're cleeeeeean. wtf, maybe fuel injectors gummed up from sitting for nearly 3 months? Drive home in the car I've borrowed from a mate.... Literally pulling into the drive way I hear a sound no-one wants to hear. The sound of pads having worn through and being metal on metal. Check the brakes and confirmed. They're boned. Well, guess there goes by back-up for getting back to work tomorrow morning "Hey boss, look... I'm having a really bad weekend" MONDAY: Out they come I'm off to petroject and say 'please test and clean if needed, need done now' 30 minutes and $75 later. "Good news and bad news. Good news, injectors are perfect, like spraying way too well for what are 20yr old injectors. Bad news is, your fuel system issue your problem with the car not starting. I did replace the o-rings though. They were perished " WHAT THE HELL! Check crank sensor and cam sensor, also, fyi, if you've got a multimeter you can test these and for subarus they should come out between 1.5-3 ohms. Mine came out bang in the middle 1.9ohms. Well if that's not the issue.... *Looks at the Crank Sprocket* "God dammit" After confirming with online parts numbers for my car, my crank sprocket was the wrong bloody one. Drive to pukekohe from North shore and back. remove cambelt, put on the right sprocket. Go to install the last idler threaded the bolt aaall the way in by hand, went in really nice, just to tighten it up a smidge before hitting them with the torque wrench... aaaaaand righty loosey. Pulled the ENTIRE thread out of the block. Kevin comes in clutch, delivers me a M10x1.25 helicoil kit at 6:30pm at night and install the helicoil that night, in the dark. Tuesday aaaand I put it back to the absolute minimum I can to try start it. First try, does it even count if you didn't hit the starter? ignition on, fuel pump prime and I hear the unmistakable sound of fuel pissing out on the ground. Oh look, an injector seal is leaking. Pull both right hand injectors and looks like one must've gotten an o-ring JUUUUUUST too smol. Back to petroject, they give me new o-rings, bang em back in the car and sure as heck, it starts up thankfully not spewing fuel everywhere. Big yass. Only to be shot in the foot 40 minutes later when I notice that the clutch ain't doing crap. and that ladies and gentlemen, is where I wasted the next 6 hours trying to bleed it out, and fix what can't be fixed. A quick visit from a friend of mine who did this sorta crap for a job, "you're an idiot sandwich mate. You've got a blown Master Cylinder....." and that brings us to our Finale. Wednesday. up at 8am. Down over to Grey Lyn for rotors and pads for the other car as I'm thinking maybe it's time to eat a slice of humble pie and try fix the lowest hanging fruit issue first and brake fluid for my legacy and this loaner car. Friend from giltrap gives me a buzz while I'm driving "You need a master cylinder aye? I can get you a cheap one from PartsMaster for $80?" You know I'm all about them deals. pick it up, shoot back to the legacy, and I sh!t you not, that thing is bolted up bled and working in under 25 minutes. Quick test drive.. To hamilton for work?? Lets take all the tools.... Runs, drives and oh god it was so worth the stress this @$$hole has put me through haha. Guess it's just in time for a wash eh? Oh... Hey weather system.

  14. Saturday, Well, engine came back out! Fixed the misaligned clutch. Put the oil drain on, with heat shielding. Deleted the GDB clutch bleed setup in favour of single braided line. Got that around the wrong way. Fixed that. Engine in, wastegates off to check spring pressures. Now both have 7psi springs. Flumbled around trying to figure out how to get it all to fit in there. Turns out, turbo on first, then engine in, then downpipe, then wastegate dump pipe on wastegate, then wastegates in place. She's a little tooooight Also fiddled with fuel lines. Plumbed the -8 AN lines to the stock body for the time being. Then today! Get under the car to install exhaust manifold on engine. Promptly get it half on, drop it on my face, break my nose. Mint. Hospital check because recently had surgery on my nose and would rather sort that now lol. Reattempt getting manifold on without breaking nose again, am successful. Yuss. Replace the fittings in the wastegates, because old and cruddy. Cut heat shielding to size for boost lines. Run vac lines for wastegates. #goodenuff Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk

Joined the 3.0r gang a few months ago, scored a 05 BP to daily from a cop, has a bunch of STI stuff on it, brembos front and rear tensioner puller decided it didn’t want to live anymore the other day so ordered a new kit from Subaru, installed it then justified buying a new torque wrench for one single bolt, now it’s back on the road ready to get tailgated by all those level 2 people

  20. Sooooo bought another project car for a heck of a deal. She's been a very tidy car in the past (if you know the previous owner). But now needs some serious TLC. She'll serve me well while the 450kw build happens Not sure about the wing haha. Might swap it for a standard one. They are worth a bit of coin though!

  22. Had it on the Dyno Friday. Had a couple of issues. Basically, fuel injector clinic 1650cc e85 injectors have really bad short pulse control. Cheap injector, don't recommend. The exhaust strangled it, and I have a huge amount of pressure drop across the intercooler. Like nearly 4psi. Plan of attack: New intercooler. Adrenaline r 3inch tail section (or similar, quiet is good but needs to flow well) Get some id1300x's Retune. As it is, it's a hoot to drive (safe tune) but it's... No where close to what the target was

  23. Finally fixed my hoist again... Around 6 months ago the chain snapped, which took us ages to finally sort. We bought a new chain $100 or so, and installed that, but then we found the original geared cogs were too worn and were slipping with the new chain. So just procrastinated about that for ages, until last week I mentioned it to my dad, who said to give him a cog. So did that, and he found replacements for $12 each, and then machined them out to fit at his work, and provided new pins etc. While we were at it, he machined out the original motor pulley to fit the replacement motor, as we'd been running a larger pulley, as that's all that could fit. Finally got it all together, and working this week! And for the first time since we've owned it, it can now lift a falcon! Previously with the larger motor pulley it was geared wrong and wouldn't do it! All this means I can FINALY put the legacy back up on the hoist and find the oil leak and exhaust leaks.... Then don't get me started on the fuel rail leaks...

  31. I bought myself an engine. Specifically the sleeved 2.2L stroked to 2.35L that was for sale on here. I'm now sending it to SAS for a freshen up. Will run my v8 Spec C heads on it, rather than the v4 STi heads. Will get some cams for it too. @Niran Who's gonna hit 400kw first bb

  32. God, where do i start? Tuesday finished work at lunch, parked the car in the empty bay at work and tore the entire front end of the B4 apart, engine, gearbox, front subframe, arms, everything, all out. It took all Wednesday and Thursday swapping over whatever i needed from the Rev D motor to my Rev B motor from my old Legacy while also doing an ST conversion. Worked Friday so no work done on car. Saturday was 2 trips to Te Puke (Roughy an hour from me) to visit Jeremy from Subiedoo Spares to get bits. got the new front subframe all put back together and put engine and gearbox onto it. This morning slid the drivetrain under and lifted into place. fit everything. fit rev D intake and basically got the car running. Runs pretty badly because the top mount isnt on i havent sorted a couple vac lines but runs. Found everything different between the rev B and D bolt ons. Honestly didn't realise how much was actually different between the two engines and if i didnt have some parts already as well as the motor that came out to steal hoses and sensors from this wouldn't have been possible. @A_J_T I cant thank you enough. You've been great dealing with my random texts to explain the ST swap to me. I definitely owe you a beer. Car currently only has a down pipe on and sounds absolutely vicious but cant go on the road till the exhaust, top mount and brakes are sorted so at work it stays. 10/10 would not recommend with the time constraints i had and the fact that work had to be delayed on the car because i couldn't get some parts due to public holidays. However 10/10 would do again. It was fun.

  35. Hooked up a reversing camera to my factory Nav screen which doesn’t have a rca input for a reversing camera. A trip to Jaycar and identifying which pins to use on the back and it all works

And she’s in, seems the controls that came with the wheel are either a different, darker version or all my silver trim pieces have just faded a heap over the years, not sure whether I should swap my old ones in or not. Install took a grand total of about 30mins with half of that spent finding the correct sized torx bit for the airbag. 😒

  38. Hey everyone, I'm new to Sub's, I use to be a Nissan/Toyota man, but then kids happened, life happened and money was dry. However finally had an opportunity to have a play. Brook my best mate has been a sub fan all life and knows the EJ's like the back of his hand, he is an aircraft engineer. However I'm the noob and on a fast learning curve.   39. Well, the engine is back in my Type RA. Sort of. All in all, that turbo looks reaaaal at home. excuse the mess that is the engine bay. Should maybe have it running next weekend. We'll see how motivated I am haha. It'll need to come out again as the darn clutch didn't line up properly, and when I went to pull the engine back out to fix it, the hoist decided today was the day it blew it's seals.

  40. If only it was that simple. First payment was supposed to come in on Monday. No money, checked again today. still nothing. So i called the ministry of justice and asked what the next step was. Turns out that the attachment order was served on the 12th of June. On the 18th of June she filed for the benefit. So we can all see the problem there. So back to the court i went. I had to file yet another attachment order in order to get money from her benefit. But i didn't stop there, i don't really want to say what else i've done in case in case she is lurking on here, she is pretty into her cars so it wouldn't surprise me if she's on every forum. What i can say is that its totally legal because the court provides it as an option. As much as i have been told to drop it. Im not stepping away and id like to thank all of you for supporting me to do this. Oh and for those counting. The bill is now almost $4000

  43. Uhhh 225s on a 9.5" rim, why are we are looking at anything other than your incorrect tyre fitment? The contact patch is herp derping about because your sidewalls are probably at about 45 degrees. Get tyres that actually fit on your rim. Your current combination isn't even legal (https://www.lvvta.org.nz/documents/infosheets/LVVTA_Info_01-2009_V3_Tyre_Size_to_Wheel_Size_Compatibility_Guide.pdf) Jesus, going loop-de-loop on handling mods while running a frankly stupid tyre setup, what's the point?

(I guess someone was doing me a favour.... I didn't really like the Konigs anyway) So insurance let me pick the Advantis below There's even a vid of it on youtube lol

  47. A few weeks ago I picked up a BH5 Legacy (first Subaru) for $500 from Gisborne, drove it to Auckland and this last weekend I changed oil, transmission fluid, both filters. Reattched the bonnet rod (the bar that holds the bonnet) (couldn’t remember the actual word) and got some OEM 17s quite cheap. And a few minuted ago I bought from Subaru Speed a full set of Bilsteins with STI pinks, hoping to do fit it all this week. Many parts of small rust need to be addressed, will get into it eventually.   48. WRX - over the past two weekends I half Mother's 3 stepped the car with a Rockwell Polish/Buffer I got from Supercheap. I say half because I didn't have space to touch the passenger side, but I did claybar then use a Fireball nano coat type thing Here is the 3 stepped side: : Taken on my iPhone with a damaged camera lens, should have taken my DSLR with me.
