Too excited not to share. Some of you will have seen I sold my old type R.. Only reason was because I managed to win this unicorn at Auction! The v6 type R LTD!! Only about 580 made, arguably the rarest subi you can get next to the 22b. Few things made it 'affordable' haha but I don't really care as i'll keep it forever: Its an R grade - but was just in a minor frontal (cross member, front support, guards and bonnet replaced, no apparent chassis damage). Still registered in Japan meaning its of a good standard. 78,000kms!!! It is modified (WIN WIN WIN) - GDB 6 speed, engine and GRB brembos and maybe some other drivetrain components (hence the UGLY AF wheels) Looks very very tidy if not for the R grade. So dam stoked to snag this. Been looking for one for over a year! Anyone know what wheels those are? Trying to figure out if the hubs were replace to 5x114.3 or 5x100 based on those.8 points

Well, this has to be potentially one of the most frustrating weekends I've had with Subarus in a VERY long time. warning. LONG read. tl;dr LOTS of things don't go my way. Things broke that shouldn't have broke. I consider insurance fraud. I fixed it after putting in WAY too many stressful hours. I'm definitely not selling it now because it owes me WAY too much money. Also, @SAS Richard, thank you for the help on identifying the issue from over 1200km away Man knows so much about Subarus it's not funny. Kinda is, comical but guru is literally a thing. @94 Leone Dude, you're legendary. Your assistance in getting this flame heap of a turd running was absolutely critical, I can't thank you more. lastly, take a moment to thank people who share information here on clubsub. You're all awesome. I wouldn't know anything or how to fix much without this community or its support. So cheers all. =================================================================== Got my Legacys engine back and started putting it in on Saturday, engine in the bay in under an hour. Going really well! I thought Start bolting things up run out of light so call it a day. Good progress was made. Sunday brings us getting most of the last things bolted up! all ancillaries, coolant system, etc all hooked up ready to go! and nothing It cranks but won't do crap. Check fuel priming to injectors. Yeap got fuel pressure. Check Spark? Yep got that too. Breathe in? Yep got air. Pulled spark plugs and they're cleeeeeean. wtf, maybe fuel injectors gummed up from sitting for nearly 3 months? Drive home in the car I've borrowed from a mate.... Literally pulling into the drive way I hear a sound no-one wants to hear. The sound of pads having worn through and being metal on metal. Check the brakes and confirmed. They're boned. Well, guess there goes by back-up for getting back to work tomorrow morning "Hey boss, look... I'm having a really bad weekend" MONDAY: Out they come I'm off to petroject and say 'please test and clean if needed, need done now' 30 minutes and $75 later. "Good news and bad news. Good news, injectors are perfect, like spraying way too well for what are 20yr old injectors. Bad news is, your fuel system issue your problem with the car not starting. I did replace the o-rings though. They were perished " WHAT THE HELL! Check crank sensor and cam sensor, also, fyi, if you've got a multimeter you can test these and for subarus they should come out between 1.5-3 ohms. Mine came out bang in the middle 1.9ohms. Well if that's not the issue.... *Looks at the Crank Sprocket* "God dammit" After confirming with online parts numbers for my car, my crank sprocket was the wrong bloody one. Drive to pukekohe from North shore and back. remove cambelt, put on the right sprocket. Go to install the last idler threaded the bolt aaall the way in by hand, went in really nice, just to tighten it up a smidge before hitting them with the torque wrench... aaaaaand righty loosey. Pulled the ENTIRE thread out of the block. Kevin comes in clutch, delivers me a M10x1.25 helicoil kit at 6:30pm at night and install the helicoil that night, in the dark. Tuesday aaaand I put it back to the absolute minimum I can to try start it. First try, does it even count if you didn't hit the starter? ignition on, fuel pump prime and I hear the unmistakable sound of fuel pissing out on the ground. Oh look, an injector seal is leaking. Pull both right hand injectors and looks like one must've gotten an o-ring JUUUUUUST too smol. Back to petroject, they give me new o-rings, bang em back in the car and sure as heck, it starts up thankfully not spewing fuel everywhere. Big yass. Only to be shot in the foot 40 minutes later when I notice that the clutch ain't doing crap. and that ladies and gentlemen, is where I wasted the next 6 hours trying to bleed it out, and fix what can't be fixed. A quick visit from a friend of mine who did this sorta crap for a job, "you're an idiot sandwich mate. You've got a blown Master Cylinder....." and that brings us to our Finale. Wednesday. up at 8am. Down over to Grey Lyn for rotors and pads for the other car as I'm thinking maybe it's time to eat a slice of humble pie and try fix the lowest hanging fruit issue first and brake fluid for my legacy and this loaner car. Friend from giltrap gives me a buzz while I'm driving "You need a master cylinder aye? I can get you a cheap one from PartsMaster for $80?" You know I'm all about them deals. pick it up, shoot back to the legacy, and I sh!t you not, that thing is bolted up bled and working in under 25 minutes. Quick test drive.. To hamilton for work?? Lets take all the tools.... Runs, drives and oh god it was so worth the stress this @$$hole has put me through haha. Guess it's just in time for a wash eh? Oh... Hey weather system.8 points

Hey guys, Just thought I would give and update as its been some time now. I managed to find all/enough evidence to satisfy NZTA for the special permit. The car is now registered and driving on the roads. If anybody is interested in having the information I would be happy to share what I have. Thanks, Josh6 points

Serviced the donor car I bought for the race car. Old oil flushed. New filter, plug washer and oil. Radiator flushed and filled with fresh coolant. Trans was completely empty so filled with oil. Brakes bled with fresh fluid so they actually work now. Discovered the old fuel filter had been bypassed, so installed a fresh one and hooked it up. Pumped the old fuel out and put some fresh 98 in. Then checked base fuel pressure and adjusted slightly. Fixed a few other little things like the water temp gauge, the intercooler rubbing on radiator support and the exhaust rattling on towbar. Found the steering rack leaks like a sieve. Thankfully the one on the racecar doesn't. So will leave that for now. The exhaust is pretty cooked. The bottom of the downpipe is about to break off from the rest of the exhaust. Going twinscroll anyway so not needed. Also noticed its missing 3 of the 5 nuts holding the downpipe to the turbo lol. Anywho, took it for a short test drive which went well. 12-13psi on a short pull. Sounds pretty healthy and makes cool turbo noises. Next on the list: send a can of upper engine cleaner through it, change the plugs and check rear diff oil. Then I'm basically ready to pull the engine from the donor car and start getting it ready to put in the racecar.5 points

Unfortunately or fortunately they aren't dreamers, its just a fact. These cars are now asking this money. In Australia a car like Nirans would be worth over 100k. If anything NZ is behind the times with values. Try importing a tidy one for less than 80k landed and on the road. No one wants to own a Ford and also the focus doesn't have the JDM factor.5 points

Hey team, Mrs is away this weekend trying to fill in some space - anyone free this weekend for a get together? wont lock anything in stone yet but if decent turnout is keen for a little drive up to Ohau I am ok opening up my home to the OG members (New members welcome if long standing members can vouch for you) sounds a bit stink but opening my home up I can only be wary. Could be keen to crank a bbq, have lots of land with landscaped parts make for perfect back drop in photos Let me know your thoughts - could be keen to take the car for a cruise if people dont want to travel up these ways and once we have some people sorted I will make a FB event as we will most likely forget hahaha5 points

That's good to hear that more of you jet guys are coming back. It does suck about the different base though. If I'm lucky I might catch the legacy around the carpark sometime. I'm just on the dash. Today was wash day ready for tomorrow. I still can't get over how the new exhaust looks, as always the pics don't do it justice.4 points

Just bought a v3 sti . Yea the white one that was on fb in chch Had a v3 ra a few years ago . Was 197kw on 11 psi . Electric windows and central locking seem handy now im over 30 ha ha This thing runs ok . Vf 22 . Only on 10 psi so must have retard controller plumbing or its in linp mode . Will figure it out eventually. Desperately needs a new 02 sensor Will panel and paint it at some point and generally just make it as good as it can be . Ive still got an adjustment afm and a wide band so ill turn this thing up till it runs out of injectors . Like to think id build a forged 2.2 but yea have 0 of those bits lying around . Thought i had acess to some v6 heads but apparently not . If someone has some shim under bucket heads they want to sell id be interested Where are you all hosting photos that you share on here these days ?4 points

Done my first wheel bearing/hub today. Rear passenger side wheel bearing on my 2016 STi gave up at 98,000km. Must have worn out prematurely from all the AWD burnouts on the Taupo skidpad! Sorry for the poor quality pictures, they were taken on Snapchat and then saved…4 points

$1500 is for a long motor that the seller thought was toast. Which is about the value of the things that bolt onto a dead long motor. Used low-ish Kms EJ205 long motor, let's say $2k. Gaskets, seals, odds and ends that you would want to refresh, coolant, oil, probably $1k, 1.5k if you want to do the cambelt. Can you do all the labour yourself? If not, engine out, refresh replacement motor, engine back in, probably $2k+. So you're looking at $5k to revive it. If you went to a 207... shortblock or long motor? If I remember right the shortblocks are a couple of grand, then all the misc you would have to do, at least a couple more grand, then labour, a few more, then you would presumably need a retune as your compression is probably different, I'd say $10k all done and you would have probably the same performance as you do currently. EJ207 long motor, let's say $4-5k for the motor and bits hanging off it, $1k refreshing it, $2k labour, $1k tune (or maybe you could swap in an STI ECU?) - $8-10k and you would get EJ207 performance. But you would be better off selling yours before it blows up and buying an STI.4 points

The gravel express ticked over 250,000kms today. Well, the base chassis did, mostly everything was refreshed, so not much is actually that old. Although I realised that also means the engine has ticked over 400Kms since being built now, and it's been absolutely flawless in that time. I've been enjoying driving it every now and then, and it's been super practical. The lease on my workshop is up at the end of the month, so using this to move everything to my lock up, it fits a surprising amount in it, that's for sure. Just wish It had roof racks for some of the larger stuff!4 points

Hey team, it's that time again for another meet. We'll try the same deal as last time, meet at the riverbank in Lower Hutt at 1030 then cruise up to Paraparaumu and grab a feed for those who want to join. Hopefully we get better weather then last time, but probably not as it's still Wellington Sorry Sunday was the only day my schedule allowed. Also here's the link for those on FB https://fb.me/e/H6T2ISeP Hope to see some of you there4 points

I've finally committed to EL for mine. I'd been tossing up using Niran’s old headers but grabbed a set of EL headers with the same uppipe location to replace the old UEL ones he was running. It's just a more mature sound that doesn't attract the same attention as usual boxer sound.4 points

Drive it, enjoy it, worry about the trans when something happens - K's really aren't everything, service history plays a big role.. If it does go pop, just throw in another, or even try find a 5sp STi box with the right ratio to match your rear diff and get back to it. My car has done 147,000k and 4th gear is crunchy, not the end of the world and it still gets a beating when I drive it.4 points

cars been in dirty 'rally' mode for few months now due to auckland water ban (that's my excuse and i'm sticking with it ) , took it slow and did a full simple detail by hand, feeling out and taking notes of areas for paint correction later. vacuum, interior clean with soapy water on leather bits , wipe down rest. wash/dry , meguiars ultimate polish 1 pass, meguiars ultimate wax, rainx glass cleaner, rain x water repellant on glass. silicone to black out the black stuff and around the tyres. ran out of wheel cleaner so warm dish soap and some elbow grease like good old days lol. basic clean down of engine bay, car has seen some dodgy conditions and few areas really going to need to bust out DA with compound for next time but good enough for now. was first time using meguiars ultimate wax on the body , normally a big fan of carnauba gold wax for the shine but this seems nearly as good and was just so much easier to use.. bought in to it because apparently the paint protection last longer, had i know how much easier it wipes on/ wipe off then i would have switched over years ago. in the pics i see i missed a few spots wiping off the wax, better go back and fix that 😆 also damn hazy reflections, should have not been lazy and bust out the DA do it right hard to see in photos but IRL you could slap a Bluebirds badge because there are a whole lotta chips here and on the sides from driving too 'enthusiastically' on gravel roads first time i actually cleaned the number plants, used toothbrush and warp dish soap, its crazy how it contrasts buffed out some nasty scratches this side. polished the muffler cans too... not that anyone will see them but feels good, didn't clean under side of car this time but next time it's up on jacks stands will do so!4 points

So. Did a great thing today. Been hunting and messaging people like crazy over the last 6 months for an RA or type R and finally got the timing / luck right today. Found myself a 2000 v6 STI RA V Limited 757 of 2000 and snatched it in like 2 hours haha. Here she is: Lots of stuff to fix to get her running right, but pretty happy with this one! Will definitely be a keeper4 points
